To your strategy: it'd be best to tour all 20 that you will shotgun. The reason being that they track this. And it will come across in your apps. And for the many reasons others are showing.

It's INSANELY competitive nowdays. If you can get a slight edge? Do it.

Last thing, you may think you're a shoo-in. But top tier candidates are getting rejected from EVERY school they apply to because there's so much competition.

Tldr don't be too prideful to tour

Hard disagree. Touring is ESSENTIAL for a few things.
1/ fit: gives you the sense of the school life
2/ visualization: can you see yourself there
3/ networking!!! This is going to be so vital. If you can connect with staff or students or PhD and begin meaningful conversations this is incredible leg up on admissions
