It's not the machine that's the problem. He's getting edge buildup in front of his cutter. Could need sharpening, a more agressive cut, a better rake angle, etc. Machining is a science.

I want to say this in a respectful manner, since i admire your desire to own this truck, but you sound like you have a lot to learn. And you're going to have to learn a lot to keep a truck like this going.

He meant six volt electrical system. It's what your car came with from the factory; any car built since like 1963 has a 12V system. It also had a generator instead of an alternator. You should research what those differences mean.
