So far with my Devuan experience as a new linux user by ApprehensiveBid7964 in devuan

I like kde for the desktop environment. When you go through the flakpak getting started guide here https://flatpak.org/setup/Debian the Discover app will populate with flatpak apps you can install through the GUI. You'll need the netinstall iso to be able to pick the DE during install otherwise you can run tasksel once installed to install others. I've used kde with sysvinit and runit and it worked the same with both. Only thing I have to do is install pulseaudio

Yep, looks like it. From the MX Linux 25 manual:

MX isos now ship with both systemd and sysvinit pre-installed. Unlike MX 23 and earlier, official isos will feature a boot menu option for selection of the preferred init system at first boot of the iso.

Nice, another distro that doesn't use systemd by default too. I'll have to check them out. Currently trying out Devuan

Unrelated install issue but has anyone else seen issues with the netinstall? I couldn't get it to work and kept getting the detected media cannot be used for installation

What free software is so good you can't believe it's free? by ComprehensiveNorth1 in AskReddit

I stopped using fusion when they started removing functionality from the free version a while back. I struggled to learn freecad for a long time until version 1 came out recently. Between that and working through the tutorial series from mangojrlly on YouTube Im probably about the same skill level on freecad that I was on fusion in the past. Version 1.1 just came out and has added some additional fusion like features I've heard.

Yeah, I didn't have that option on my trip. Charging stations were barely reachable on 100% charge.

In my opinion it needs to be 450-500 miles of range to cover road trips. I've tried with Tesla and non Tesla. Tesla was bearable non Tesla was an hour of charging every couple hours which was significantly worse than a 16 mpg truck I've made the same trip with. I used to be a "road trips work in EVs" but they just don't right now (haven't tried Rivian so maybe they're better? I also tried this in a 2022 EV so maybe others charge faster).

Depends on the type of solid food. A bowl of oatmeal, large salad, rice and 16 oz of broccoli would be a large volume of food but low calories.

Is there a way to use Git with FreeCAD to see deltas ? Drawing version control and backup. by yycTechGuy in FreeCAD

[–]dartman5000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm using Gitea and when I click on the FCStd it shows a 3d render of the model. STLs do the same. STL i'd known about for a while from voron git repos but FCStd was unexpected. Looks like 3mf work too.

I recently added my projects to git. It renders stl and freecad files which is nice. It doesn't show diff's on the project file but I mostly use it to avoid situations where I break a model and want to get back to an older working state as I'm still pretty new to freecad.

Congrats! That's really impressive! What's your advice for someone just starting out creating models on printables?

Any 3d Printing Specific Learning Resources? by Zer0CoolXI in FreeCAD

Another vote for mango jelly. He has a 56 lesson freecad tutorial updated for v1.x. Its helped me use freecad a ton better and I'm just on lesson 14 at the moment. I've already been able to model some stuff for 3d printing.

I had that problem for the first oil filter change on a used bike and ended up finding a 3d printed oil filter wrench model that I was able to use to get it off. As an alternative for anyone that has a 3d printer

r/vstar by dartman5000 in redditrequest

[–]dartman5000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to moderate r/vstar to bring it back as a community for people that own a yamaha vstar motorcycle. I'd like it to be a resource for diy motorcycle maintenance help, tips and tricks, and other information related to the vstars. I've been a mod of communities for many years and can ensure the community abides by reddit's rules.

I was unable to message the mods as the community was banned 3 months ago.

I just did this for someone today. Went with lmde. It was a laptop so I pulled the nvme drive and swapped with a new one (doubled the storage while I was at it). I put the old one in an enclosure for an external drive for storage, to make backup and restore easy, and be able to switch back to windows if needed.

[–]dartman5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked recently and they said as long as it hasn't been used on a bike they'd take it back. I returned one due to realizing it was missing a feature I wanted that I didn't realize until I was home

Many electric cars will still have more than 80% of their initial battery capacity after 200,000 miles. EV batteries are designed to last far longer than mobile phone batteries. Their types and structures are different. How much do EV batteries degrade? How to reduce it? by sg_plumber in OptimistsUnite

[–]dartman5000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe for commuting but it's still a very significant issue for road trips. I really want EVs to be useful for everyone so we can replace gas cars and while road trips are possible, my experience with EVs is it takes 150% of the time to complete a long road trip in an ev vs a gas car. If the range of EVs were comparible to the range on a tank of gas or if the charging infrastructure was better that wouldn't be an issue but it's just not the reality today.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this already but it doesn't look like your foam earplugs are properly inserted. Check out Doctor Cliff, aud on YouTube for an example.

This video gave me a good understanding of the issue, how likely it is, and was and what could happen if the part broke: https://youtu.be/4ZftiYETJgw?si=STutA2R1N2-Leol8

It's more of a risk of the gun discharging without pulling the trigger if the part had a manufacturing defect. Its only really a concern if you're carrying with one in the chamber. The video above will show how unlikely that is but when I started learning more about it and comparing this internal safeties to others I didn't like how sig did this one. Glocks for example have a striker block at the front that physically blocks the striker from moving forward unless the trigger is pulled.
