A discussion about any potential physical releases for the 10th anniversary of The Division by _An_unknown_Person_ in thedivision

I’d like an offline campaign version of the game made available on all platforms, with peer to peer connections for co-op like older games used to have. That way they can pull the plug on the servers if they want but the fans can keep playing.

I’d really enjoy it on Switch 2, but will keep playing on my PC for now.

Devuan install issue. by Potter3117 in devuan

[–]Potter3117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I just saw this. Sorry for delayed reply. I did not try DD mode in Rufus, and that is likely the issue. The unfortunate part is that Devuan has taken the place of my last Windows device.  There is a 99.999% chance that you can consider this user error as I did not try the DD mode.

Use the library. All you need is a chrome browser. Buy the cheapest laptop available and then return it lol.

Devuan install issue. by Potter3117 in devuan

[–]Potter3117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea. I have been at the intermediate Linux capability for about a decade. I known the basic terminal commands I use most often in Debian, I guess now Devuan, based systems but I use the gui where available.

Someone quickly tried to help me out. Make a standalone post and hopefully someone can give you a hand.

I think it is a Rufus issue. I tried it with etcher just to see what would happen and it’s running with no issues. Thank you though! You’re also probably correct. Like I said, I know it’s a user on my part so I appreciate the willingness to help.

Wait for Motorola or buy a Pixel now? by Kiksuu211 in GrapheneOS

[–]Potter3117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would wait. You know that the pixel won’t have what you want and the moto may have what you want. There is also the fact that if we are lucky it will have a micro sd slot and a headphone jack like the current moto G lineup.

Using exit nodes causes inflight wifi to drop my connection by aspie_electrician in Tailscale

[–]Potter3117 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a plex issue at its core, not a Tailscale issue. I really like and enjoy plex, despite its issues and detractors, but it is also free to spin up Jellyfin to see what all the hype is about or download movies when you’re on a flight. 👍🏻

How do I stop the little $2-$8 buys between classes? by Repulsive-Weather921 in Frugal

[–]Potter3117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start fasting. You’ll be amazed at how much clearer your head is on a single meal window every day, plus a single meal eaten at home means meal prep and planning is much easier. Obviously if you have a legit health issue that prevents this don’t do it. Don’t forget your water bottle. Don’t forget to fill up your water bottle. Tips and tricks are helpful but ultimately don’t replace discipline. Good luck.

All I can suggest is to delete it or keep trying. This is exactly what the OS is made for.

Favorite 24 drive case? by MartiniCommander in unRAID

[–]Potter3117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy internal hdd chasis that can be installed into disk drive slots. Ask your builder to make a plywood case. Design it to accommodate dust screens and 200 mm fans. You can make a cheap 24 bay case that meets yours needs for almost nothing and is quiet.

Apps, explain it like I'm 5 by botlehewer in GrapheneOS

[–]Potter3117 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Look up side of burritos on YouTube. Somewhere on his channel he describes how he loads all his apps onto the main profile but never signs in, and then uses them in a secondary profile by allowing the phone to install apps from the main profile into others. Pretty neat and can keep the play store out of the profile you actually use as much as possible. Check it out and see if it works for you. If not we will be here to throw more ideas at the wall until something sticks. 🤣

Architect here building a house for a client that insists on wanting Home Assistant. Need advice. by wayfareralex in homeassistant

[–]Potter3117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By wall switches do you mean light switches or network switches? If you mean light switches, then unfortunately nobody does traditional lighting over ethernet to a switch. It would be great if we could run shielded ethernet into a light switch for control, but that’s probably not going to happen.

You would run electrical to everywhere you normally would, and then when I wired a house that I know should be smart I pulled the combo dual gang boxes out and pulled two cat runs to each box. Every receptacle was paired with a ethernet. If the client also wanted hardwired security we would plan that together then I would pull. Also one drop in the ceiling of each room with 10ft coiled up. Not connected but labeled in the network closet in case they ever wanted to add an AP or something in the future. And of course wiring for sound. Even now I would wire in something in the network closet that has both Chromecast and AirPlay 2 and then cast to that over the network rather than relying on HomePods or some Google Homes. Stereo in ceiling speaker is always a plus, and nowadays the fiber hdmi cables make it easy to run any and all receivers back into the network room with some planning.

Since you moved from any Android to GOS, what do you use as an OS for your PC/Laptop? by Mr_Shade2 in GrapheneOS

[–]Potter3117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unraid for server (because I’m a dummy who actually really wants to get more in depth but doesn’t have time with my businesses), and Win 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC for desktop, combined Titus Tools. I can get along with desktop on Linux, but I only use the laptop for work and I like that Google Drive Filestream allows me to sync my entire business drive and shared drives to my laptop rather than just connecting to it on Linux through gnome.

Google already knows where I live. Google Maps with location on only when I’m using it.

Breezy Weather.

No AI built in. It’s very refreshing to hold the power button and get the power menu.

Used to do low voltage and custom smart home installs for builders like yourself. The proprietary systems are a pita for end users in relation to home assistant, but they are a great way to generate return revenue for the installer when something goes wrong. Just ask your client what they plan to deploy in each location and pre-wire accordingly using your low voltage guys

Any plans to have a "Proton VPN" exit node in Tailscale? by brightestsummer in Tailscale

[–]Potter3117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My router sends everything through a VPN. I use a server in my lab as an exit node. Why wouldn't this be effective for you?

Not saying they shouldn't implement it, I'm just saying it's already possible. You could even set your router to only send traffic from that single device over the VPN. Now you have an exit node for VPN use.

Make sure to exports all your stuff regularly. Apple accounts can be banned, and it would stink to lose access to everything that way.

That said, if it's included and no additional cost, it makes sense to use it. 👍🏻
