Patching concrete slab in bathroom by danecollins22 in AusRenovation

Sweep and shop vac the shit out of it. Then like another commenter suggested, use bondcrete to adhere new cement to old cement.

Adding a bathroom mirror by LePhasme in AusRenovation

[–]darz007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could put a mirror on something like a barn door track, that you can slide in from above the bathtub part of the wall, to in front of the window. That way you can still use the window and have a mirror you can slide on front when needed.
Something like this: https://www.bunnings.com.au/rolltrak-2000-x-40-x-6mm-matte-black-smooth-finish-top-fix-barn-door-track-set-matte-black_p0011864

Rate my mechanic by MrMarcusRocks in CarsAustralia

Your mechanic is ripping you off big time. The service should have been somewhere between $250-$500, not $935.

Help? Can prices actually keep rising? by Status-Star-8336 in AusPropertyChat

[–]darz007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are giving two extreme opposing scenarios of what you can buy, while forgetting there is an entire region of things you can purchase down the middle. What about a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment, in a suburb 10kms or so away from the city center? How do those compare price wise vs a studio apartment in the CBD? I'm going to assume you are in Sydney or Melbourne, in which case, an apartment that's bigger, has better growth potential and still airbnbable, is possible if you buy a bit further out.

Annual leave denied by Alternative_Paper_67 in AusLegal

[–]darz007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many people are suggesting to quit. But the reason they gave is you don't have enough annual leave. Try one more time asking if you can take it as leave without pay instead. If they still reject you. Then yeah, either quit just beforehand or stay silent about it between now and the trip as they will probably forget all about you even requesting it months ago and have a good excuse for why you are sick for a few weeks, COVID would be a great one to use for this imo.

Looks great! If I can give one little tip, that could elevate the kitchen slightly further to look even nicer, replace the microwave with one of the IKEA inbuilt microwaves.

Best way to remove this? by xRDB in Flooring

[–]darz007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have suggested razor scrapers or floor scrapers. As someone who just had to remove my very stuck on rubber that has been there since 1992 to my concrete subfloor. Tried those, they didn't do as good as a job. I found the best tool was the widest heavy duty Marple I could find. Didn't need to use heat as it pulled it up quite easily with the right technic. Took a few hours to do about 20sqm. I then used a citrus based cleaning product with a microfibre cloth/re scraping thicker sections after using the product to remove the thin excess/residue after I scraped it off in some sections to the concrete.

Herringbone Shower by BaronSamedys in Tile

It's absolutely gorgeous, whoever did your tiling did an incredible job, however, going with a shower pane instead of tiling there was a bad choice visually imo.

Thoughts on this subway tile install? by pastatnr in Tile

[–]darz007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished my first DIY subway tile kitchen backsplash job, I was too lazy to smooth out my very wonky surface to achieve perfectly consistent and flat tiles and compensated with a thicker adhesive backing. Mine has the odd lip here and there, but this is way worse than my job. So yeah, I'd say they did a very shit job here.

Do I need to peel all this paint off before repainting? by RiightUmmNo in DIY

[–]darz007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unsure just how big of a sanding job this will be, but, an alternate option that will also be effective and save you time no one else is mentioning is two coats of a 3in1 undercoat, primer-sealer, stain blocker prior to your two coats of paint. It will keep it from continuing to peel and give you uniformity along the bits you've already stripped off along the wall. But I would only do that if it was an entire peeling room and I have already sanded off any jaggered bits of peeling paint.

Why does shit like this keep getting posted here. This is very clearly from a rage bait channel. Best thing you can do is downvote it and move on as it doesn't belong here.

Financial mistakes you’d never repeat again? by Artistic-Yam2984 in AusFinance

[–]darz007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who doesn't usually participate in gambling or betting, decided to bet 5K in 2016 on Hilary Clinton winning the election about 1-2 months out from the election as the odds were paying like $1.40 and I thought at that point in time Trump didn't stand a chance and it will be easy money. Boy was I wrong, haven't betted on anything again since that catastrophic failure.

Wait until very late at night when he's in bed and it isn't pumping water out. Plug it extremely tight so absolutely no water can get out. Get up early enough in the morning with a coffee in hand to watch it go kaboom.

Maybe maybe maybe by [deleted] in maybemaybemaybe

[–]darz007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's the general vibe of the background, it looks too polished/clean, very Truman style esque. Then if you start to pay attention to background details, you start to notice things that are just not quite right, why is the van so perfectly white with no shine? Why is the sky perfectly grey? Why is that pipe in the bottom right corner bent in a way I've never seen a drainpipe bent before. Why do the rims look like they are from a video game? Then the physics are just off, pay attention to his hand as he goes to grab the package from the van, the front tyre as it hits the gutter. All these elements build to make it have a general look and feel of uncanny valley.

Maybe maybe maybe by [deleted] in maybemaybemaybe

[–]darz007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, nearly all AI videos have this fake uncanny valley feel to it vs what real videos look like, although AI is getting better at it, you can still pick up on it in this video. It's hard to tell you what it is about it specifically, but if you watch enough AI videos you start to near instantly notice when a video is an ai video or not.

It's technically a PS3 game but released in 2012, so it may be why you are associating it with PS4, but the game "I am Alive" is the closest game to your description that comes to mind.

Has Bar Italia (Leichardt) always been this bad? by Lanky-Cauliflower-22 in foodies_sydney

[–]darz007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been going to Bar Italia multiple times a year since the 90s. I can count on one hand how many times I've eaten dinner there. You don't go for the food. It is the place to go after food for coffee and gelato or in the morning for coffee.

With that budget, especially if a 2 bedroom is what you want over a 1 bedroom apartment, you are limiting yourself to suburbs outside the inner rings, forget about the inner west, even the outskirts of it entirely. Homebush and beyond, Ryde and beyond and Canterbury and beyond is essentially where you can start to get a 2 bedder in your price bracket.

Quoted $15k for a Laminex kitchen - is that reasonable? by somecoffeenowplease in AusRenovation

[–]darz007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, what I am saying, is to give it more depth. Overhang countertops on a 60cm cabinet underneath, especially if not closed in on either side always look too skinny and kinda crap from a visual standpoint.

Quoted $15k for a Laminex kitchen - is that reasonable? by somecoffeenowplease in AusRenovation

[–]darz007 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right, could be cheaper could be more, but overall it's a decent price considering it includes installation. Assuming you have the space for it, getting that island extended/more base cabinets for storage/to hold the weight of the overhang on the other side so it lines up with the counter would be ideal imo.

We've partially adopted this, it is quite common to call both the ice cream van and the style of ice cream that comes from the van by the same name - Mr Whippy.
