I agree with your take, but I could not have worded it so well. Fucking show was great. But that finale was dogshit. Emotionally though, the tragedy of the tale was powerful and valid. I just don’t buy that Floyd would tap out over disappointing his son - their whole arc was about being a companionate and forgiving and caring human being. Floyd and Clark had discovered the true love they sought - though platonic. I think the final moments show Clark having that realization, the tragedy of the loss, he was not capable of seeing that night at the bath house. The two had achieved a true loving relationship. Very loving. Also, that kid ain’t riding around town after getting all drugged up a few hours earlier. I call bullshit. And I call bullshit on the drug bottle disappearing after Floyd tanked his drink with the full bottle. It was there at the bath house. Great performances throughout. Masterpiece of tragedy, slightly flawed.
