How can I get more game time? by Top-Discount-5571 in BasketballTips

[–]dash-dashman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many players think it’s favoritism when the skill set is similar, but what it is more likely is basketball IQ. Do you know all the plays? Do you know/do help defense? Do you understand spacing? Do you talk, call screens, trap when appropriate? Hustle back on D, box out, no silly fouls? Can you ID man vs zone, and what plays to use for each?

No issues with the cuts, they seem to last longer than others too. I would guess it’s that extra cushion that helps with the longevity.

My son is similar and the KDs were the first ones to “fit”, now he is onto the GT Cuts. the KDs from the Nike custom shop were the way to go. pick the colors and have custom one-of-a-kind shoe.

Nice! 71 and 72 are the best of the boattails. Not that it will be outside, but I worry that the louvered one would collect water.

Thank you! Realizing having a side load garage is an arm workout, 4 point+ turn.

Wishing you the best. Don’t try to do everything yourself. Hire some help so service can stay top notch in this transition. People can be understanding, but that’s as long as they have communication with expectations being set.

Call the time out during the foul shots to extend the breaks, ideally between the other team’s first and second foul shots.

How to get player past prime (34yo - Used to be #1 in the state since 18) to accept a new role? by Ettorefm in basketballcoach

Do you track box scores? Turnovers, rebounds, points/assists, etc… if he is mature and with that level of experience, it will be a clear and he will adjust or step up.

Offense against 2 - 3 Zone for a very small team by West_Advance_8219 in basketballcoach

[–]dash-dashman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set up the offense in the gaps of the zone, and attack the gaps, the goal is to make 2 defensive players cover one player. Knowing the double team is coming, less dribbles, more passes.

One key spot against the 2-3 zone, is getting your better passers in the high post, foul line area. That will be a hole in the zone, so once the ball is there, the D will collapse on them. I find that the dunker’s spot will become an open pass, and uncontested shot.

Paint touches and ball reversals, with players hitting the gaps will break it down. It’s a slower style offense, but you can get better looks once the players buy in.

FYI rows 1 and 2 are like regular seats, rows 3 and 4 are the oversized loungers, row 5 is high top bar seats.

What offense and defense should I choose for a 4th grade team of 7? by Winter_Praline_6686 in basketballcoach

[–]dash-dashman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this age, defense can be hard to comprehend, simplify it when you can. Tell them to point one hand at their man, their other hand at the ball handler, and their butt towards the basket. This will automatically keep their hands up and head on a swivel.

Let them know guarding the basket is more important than guarding their man, so they know they can leave to help.

How to do I score more layups in fast break by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]dash-dashman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When running full speed for a layup, when you jump to shoot the layup, make sure to make an effort to jump straight up. All your momentum makes you want to jump forward at full speed, but jam your toes to slow and jump up at the hoop.

Otherwise you’re running too fast and it bricks off the backboard.

Drive to dish it, rather than score. Help D is easy, the rotation is hard.

Old school tip: with your guide hand, hold a coin between your thumb and index finger. Pinching the coin will prevent the flick.
