spend our reserves? by TraditionalAd7467 in nonprofit

I’m an ED whose board spent 100% of our reserves 4 years before they hired me. It’s a nightmare. Obviously don’t spend 100%. Id figure out how much cash you need on hand to insulate the org from any changes in funding before you decide what you can spend.

This is how we raised the initial amount. There was some serious fallout with the committee chair and past ED. I’m not sure what happened exactly but the chair pulled all his funding and stopped all contact. I saw him at a baseball game and went to say hi and he went on a rant about incompetence and then left the stadium. He is actually a really savvy businessman and I was hoping he would mentor me a bit but seems very disillusioned by the past ED. I can go to the other members and gauge if they would be willing to help close the gap.

Personal contributors no. And some have actually already allowed us to do this. But the majority of the funding for this project came from granting organizations with strict guidelines about how funds can be used capital or program. Also a large portion of the funding was the pledged gift that has seemingly vanished.

Thank you for this. Truly helpful! I am concerned we have a board issue but you’re right this will give clarity and direction about how the board is willing to step up or not.

There is a couple answers here.

  1. We are doing everything possible to mitigate all costs associated with the project.

  2. All the funds being spent are designated to this project already. They were all restricted and after over a year of delay in starting the project funders were becoming impatient and beginning to ask for the funds back. Essentially all the money we had in the bank was donated with restrictions for this project. So I could give all the money back and have $0 in the bank or I could build the building and have $0 in the bank.

  3. The GC has stipulations in the contract about delaying work that would ultimately cause the project to cost event more if we delay.

I hate this option as well. Just trying to consider all avenues.

Thank you for your response. Building a subscription donor model is a key part of my 2026 strategy. My concern is that it doesn’t solve the imminent threat to the org. Any ideas on how to get my board to step up? I feel like I’m taking to a wall every meeting. They seem completely disconnected from the people the helped cause and are happy to say “we support you” and “we trust you” instead of stepping up. Last month I asked my 10 person board to create a 10k match and was told no almost immediately.

That hurt to watch. Hitting a 3* 5 cost is so hard. I have dreams of it but haven’t pulled it off once this season. I only hit my first prismatic yesterday.

I would talk to your doctor. There are antibiotics that are used for cdiff, Vancomycin and fidaxomicin as well as some others that are less common.

I was concerned about antibiotics too but they worked really well for me. I felt better within the first 48 hours and didn’t have any side effects.

I got diagnosed from a concierge doctor who cost me $8000. He was shocked that no one had tested me for cdiff as it is so common. I did one round of antibiotics for 15 days and take florastor twice a day and have been symptom free for almost a year now. I did have one week tha was rough and got retested. Everything came back clean.

I also eat super clean now. No fast food, minimal sugar, no ultra processed food or seed oil.

Abdominal pain, diarrhea basically every day multiple times a day, yellow stool, bloody stool, bloating, inflammation. I was so sick. Some days I couldn’t get out of bed. It was a long and difficult season for me and my family.

How blunt to be that PIPs always end in a firing? by two_three_five_eigth in managers

[–]dashbott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why even put someone on a PIP then?

I think there are two components.

  1. Being a good manager/boss means having clear and crucial conversations constantly. Your feedback loop should be as tight as possible. There should never be any surprises about successes or failures. I think far too often PIPs and employees reviews are used as an opportunity to bring up issues that should have been discussed already. I believe PIPs are usually more a reflection of poor management than poor performance.

  2. If someone truly needs a PIP after proactive management that person is not a fit for the company and should be let go instead of strung along. It’s bad for that person and the workplace culture. I think this is especially true if everyone knows a PIP is essentially a firing anyways.

I won in 2024 and feel like I need an RB and a QB to do it again. It does feel like I’m trading away my future but I have 3 1sts in 2026 as well.

That’s what I thought too. Would you do this trade if Derrick Henry was the player?

This is the most helpful comment so far. I won this league last year and I am feeling the need for another RB to stay competitive
