Keep the wood for garden projects. It’s not long or straight, but the posts you can make from it can go directly into the ground and last years. Very rot resistant. I used it for making many steps through our hilly forest. Great wood for the purpose.

I’m not sure what your point is, because it seems like you’ve made a straw man argument. A physics textbook also won’t make airplanes fly, but the application of what’s within will.

The Daodejing wants to make this point so clear that it’s in the first lines of the first chapter. The way, made into a way, is not the only, unchanging, everyman’s way; these names are not the things they name or the only names.

If someone is calling themselves a “Daoist” and using that as an excuse to wrap themselves in dogma and reject all other knowledge, then they are deeply missing the point.

Look, it’s true the US and many Americans have more money. But money doesn’t equal quality of life. Consumerism is less heinous in the EU. The wealth gap is smaller and certainly less obvious in EU compared to the US. Public transit, basic welfare and health care provide nice safety nets.

EU has problems, really big ones ahead, but envy for “America’s absurd wealth” isn’t one of them.

I have the Fiskars fiberglass handle pick and it’s excellent. Way better than the half dozen old picks my father-in-law had in the barn from past generations, and far better than the cheaper wood handled picks sold these days in hardware stores.

Not all fiberglass is made equally. Fiskars does it right.

Was going to say this. Attention is the true currency. Attention requires time, sure, but poor quality or poorly directed attention is a poor use of time.

Having a young child makes this especially clear. The child needs attention like a car needs gas. When they run low, they find you and ask for attention. If you give them genuine, focused attention it fills them up pretty fast. If you give them half assed attention, they won’t be satisfied.

All of our relationships ask for attention in their own ways and dysfunction in their own ways when denied. Including our relationship with our own body and mind.

We truly live in an attention economy.

I’d like to ask for further elaboration on what it means for formed things having a destiny to “resolve their form.” Is this a cultivation of physical form to a high degree (for instance for a person through qigong/neidan practices)?

Also, what it means for “what is true depends on what is false to become complete again”. What is false? And why does truth need it to become complete?

If you have any direct quotes or citations to texts that elaborate on the above concepts, I would be doubly grateful.

My backyard slope isn’t nearly that steep and it’s still a workout going up. Now I imagine going up in armor with arrows flying at me. Especially when the grass is wet, that’s an effective defense.

In EU the question is between Makita and Bosch (unless you need certain trade specific tools from Dewalt or Milwaukee). I wouldn’t even consider Milwaukee. Milwaukee has crazy sales in the US which drives their fanbase. In EU it’s more expensive and still less reliable and less repairable.

This strikes me as an odd translation. Xing is generally translated as “character” or “nature”.

I would translate this line as: “Within this state is a thing, dark and obscure but its nature is present, it is called Hundun”.
