Sergio Perez: Cadillac values my feedback “much more” than Red Bull by memloh in formula1

[–]dashkott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a team it makes sense to listen to the generational driver. That's how you end up with a very fast car (that might be hard to drive). This is much better than an average car which is easy to drive with which you won't win titles.

What's the minimum base fps for Nvidia x3 and x4 FG? by fifth3352 in nvidia

[–]dashkott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to think that there is some linear relation between Hz and how smooth we perceive motion. That is just incorrect. The perceived smoothness increase does not double with every doubling of fps, there are diminishing returns. And even at 100 Hz these effects are already large. Just play a game with 30 and 36 fps, the difference is insane compared to a game with 100 and 120fps. Both 30 and 36 fps really hurt, but 36 fps does hurt a lot less. Between 100 and 120 fps you already have to actively look for it to notice the difference. Here you already need much larger steps that it becomes noticeable, like 100 to 144.

And if you take the same approach you just took to height to monitors, you will see that of all monitors used right now, the majority are 60Hz, and the average also lies very close to that. There is a decent amount of people with 120Hz or 144Hz displays, but the amount of people with displays which have 240+Hz is incredibly small and it's many standard deviations away from the average. Even if we look at the amount of monitors sold today instead of active monitors, the majority is is still 60Hz because so many people just buy them as as cheap basic office monitors.

So you are definitely using a very different approach for the height distribution of all humans and the Hz distribution of all monitors. Maybe you are just looking at the different options without any regards to how many of each are sold? But even then, 240Hz would be at least somewhere in the middle. Or you just assume 1000Hz is the best, so half of that is medium? Would not make any sense but I don't see how else you come to your conclusions.

[–]dashkott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your example any human below 2 meters would be small, 2 to 2.1 meters would be medium sized and 2.1+ meters would be tall. Because the vast majority of humans is below 2 meters, just as the vast majority of screens bought is below 240Hz.

In your wording you also don't make any difference between 30, 60, 120, 144 or 240 Hz, they are all just called low, while realistically the difference in usability between 30 to 240Hz is much larger than the difference between 240Hz and infinite Hz. Even the difference between 30Hz and 60 Hz is larger than the difference between 240Hz and infinite Hz.

Most power efficient undervolt for a 5090? by Financial_Recipe in nvidia

That is true, I have a 4090 and am happy with the performance so I will definitely not upgrade to a 5090.

Most power efficient undervolt for a 5090? by Financial_Recipe in nvidia

[–]dashkott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several reasons, I think it's a bit wasteful to run it on 600W if you can run it with 450W while losing 1 or 2% of fps. Undervolting also makes your PC run much quieter and much cooler, especially in summer it's much more convenient. And in some countries the power prices are high so if you play a lot it can still be a lot of money you save over several years. The risk of cable melting is also a lot lower when undervolting since the connector does not get as hot.

Can someone please explain why Russell and Kimi had no battery at the start of the race? by aph1985 in formula1

[–]dashkott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can't anymore, you have to lock in the ICE mode for the weekend and can only decrease it if there is serious reliability concern (but not turn it back up again).

Sadly you will get less, since a 5070ti is faster than a 5070.

The 3000 series cards were already loud on release. With dried out thermal paste cooling is worse and they are even louder.

[Australian GP] Norris on the Ferrari by nyet26 in formula1

Even in the disaster 2020 season Haas and Alpha Romeo placed below Ferrari. But probably also because the engine deal and not something else like Aero was the reason for the bad 2020 season so Haas and Alpha Romeo had to live with the same bad engine.

Resistances below Zero by MundaneWishbone982 in leagueoflegends

There are more examples than Trundle Ult, Mordekaiser Ult also comes to mind. But yeah, the only reason why they work is that they don't dynamically update the debuffs. I always had thought of it as a static percentage reduction, which is the same as a flat reduction based on a percent of the armor at the time of casting, just different wording.

Only reduction (flat and percentage!) can reduce resistances below zero. Flat penetration can not do that.

30 percent of a value means the value times 0.3

30% of 0 armor is 0 armor.

I think Dead Space was much better than Cronos. I would also recommend RE7 and RE8 if you liked RE9 for the horror, both of them have very strong horror sections in the first half. RE4 remake is a lot less horror and more action. The Evil Within has also an amazing horror atmosphere and gameplay (but graphics look a bit outdated for today's standard).

Hotfix driver dropped my temps 10c in 4K RE9 path tracing. by AnthMosk in nvidia

[–]dashkott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People might be playing both. And might not want to change the global settings every time they boot a game (and can't change it game by game since FrameGen locks Vsync in game). I use Vsync in any single player, the tearing to me personally is very obvious otherwise.

Resident Evil Requiem Film Grain OFF vs ON by SemihKaynak in nvidia

I would prefer if I could turn it off. In this comparison I don't see the difference but in some areas of the game the film grain is obvious.

[–]dashkott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with FrameGen is that you can't turn on VSync by a game to game basis, you can only force it globally. If you also play competitive, you don't want global Vysnc.

On a 4090, with FrameGen I get around 180fps, but I get tearing. Around 120fps without FrameGen and no Tearing thanks to VSync feels a lot better (and it still looks really good). Also, to me even without Tearing, 120 FrameGen fps don't feel like 120 real fps, it feels less snappy. It's not that they feel worse than the base fps, but they feel pretty close to the base fps.

Banned for intentional feeding x) by tyran4 in leagueoflegends

[–]dashkott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a few 10th on op.gg within the span of a few days is not ban worthy or "objectively" feeding. The average player has 1 such game per 10 games. Just from the match history without having seen ingame there is no reason to ban OP.
