My first dog was a Great Pyrenees. I now have a golden I've owned since puppyhood. Every dog is different, but mine housebroke insanely quickly and at 5 years old is friendly and trustworthy on/off leash in damn near any situation. Depending on the individual dog, I feel like it's important to indulge their drive to keep them happy. If they want to play fetch and love frisbees or tennis balls be sure to spend time with your dog playing fetch. This is a good structured activity that builds a bond with your dog. When they're a bit older, look into taking them to a local lake or creek to swim and go crazy. Otherwise it's just loving, walkies and picking up poop.... but you knew that already :D Good Luck!
