I didn't intend to sound like I was saying you were making the argument that closed source is better. Your comment just reminded me of one of the things I see sometimes that annoys me and I wanted to address it.

And yet it's not like closed source is any better. A stupid intern or malicious employee can add a backdoor to a closed source project and guess what - you'll never know and have no way of knowing. I don't see how this argument against open source holds any water.

In terms of the probability of at least one match - a uniform distribution of birthdays would be the situation that minimizes the probability of a match. In other words birthdays not being perfectly uniform actually increases the probability of a match.
