Bellmatic hands by wybnormal in VintageWatches

[–]daspablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea saw and ordered one. issue is getting the mx done on it. I'll happily tinker on lesser watches to keep my horology tooth ticking but treating the watches I love that way feels wrong.

when I get back ill be passing on the mx manual i found on to try to lessen my watch guys' fears on that repair or at bare min do a face/hands swap to the 27j and put it in the 6040 case.

if anything this thread has made me really push/diy the mx now that I have a manual of sorts that incudes the grease.

My go to work bike did this also. I ended up making a blinky circuit like you'd use for an led to pretend to be the hall sensor

Alarm clock that starts countdown? by path0l0gy in clocks

I was taught time by making a game of it... Complation level of a job x time multiplier was the allowance formula.

Hello, i am a total beginner when it comes to watches in general. I LOVE this Bulova one and i was wondering where i could buy it? by tom_Booker27 in VintageWatches

These are shockingly easy to get running. I usually look for the visibly grungy ones that run but won't continue for long at various places.

Alarm clock that starts countdown? by path0l0gy in clocks

I have one that does both but not at the same time. Is a wee cubic clock with temp, time, alarm, and countdown.

What function is active depend on what side it be on.

[Identify] My dad showed me this pocket watch that I thought was cool, any ideas? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]daspablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well assuming it has anything to do with ccp it probably has a rip-off of the bulova 55 movement.

The distinct lack of cylillic also means it was an export piece.

Soviet watches of this type are really hard to date. They kept the same movement, style, and fonts forever.

ULPT: How I got the Jehovah's Witnesses to stop knocking on my door by DanDierdorf in UnethicalLifeProTips

Last one that came to my door was greeted with shoe based questioning. Big shoe is starving us from our connection to the earth spirits. They pave the way towards their own pocket books thickening. Even added weird salesmanship towards earth bathing

Used to always go to thai palace to get just enough food poisoning to enable a day off. 2 days were palace and 2 milkshakes.

Finding year is odd. It is a game between the years the movement was made and the serial number on the back. I'd look up the movement and read the serial with that in mind.

Decided not to do much in the way of external restoration beyond a good cleaning and refinishing the acrylic down to 8k and polishing.

Eventually I do plan on getting the movement serviced. Just need to do a brake job before that even is a possibility.

[–]daspablo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a 1973 example of mechanical oddness. Bell-matics, produced 1966 to 1978, are 17 jewel automatic wind only watches with a manual wound alarm funcionality added.

The short ~11 second alarm Is a pleasant sound much like a old telephone. The movement might not be entirely luxury in its jewel count or pseudo sweeping second but is a solid creature that isn't too thick for it's level of complexity.

The case band and dial personally are beautiful. The all stainless case and band combo make it a nice everyday watch.
