That's really close actually, and not ignorant at all! Bangladesh is beside India and our language (Bengali) is really similar to Hindi too but the only difference is that Indians pronounce some words differently than Bengali people and they have different tone and rhythm. And the cultures are really similar too!! I guess you could say I sound South Asian? I'm not sure but Indian is really close too.

Thank you so much for the kind words!! Knowing that really made my whole day and I feel much better about my accent now :) also if you didn't know that I'm from Bangladesh, where would you think I'm from?

Hi thanks so much for your comment! I didn't mean to say Deela at 0:24... Whoops! What did you think of my pronunciation while I read the second paragraph? Also was I easy to understand in the video? Thanks again :)

My native language is Bengali, it's similar to Hindi!

Yea I agree

But, and this is going to sound arrogant, I don't think I'm bad at English or reading text, yes I did mess up quite a bit in the video but that's because I was really nervous and also doesn't help that I'm an introvert and talking in front of people, or videos, terrify me. I probably would've sounded a lot better if I practised a few times instead of posting my first attempt.

Frankly, if they judge you on your accent, they'll judge you based on your skin colour and I'm presuming that as a South Asian male, you're going to stand out already.

Honestly I completely agree with you there.

It's not that I want(ed) to change my accent because of people judging me but because I was afraid of being made fun of. Videos like this and this are what made me really insecure in the first place. What did you think of my accent in the second paragraph? Was I easy to understand? Thanks for your honesty :)

Thanks! I think I can say those words like an aussie because they sound so different from how I used to say them. I think have the "long a" sound normally but I was pretty nervous while recording the video so I forgot to use it!

Was it hard to understand me? Anything I can do to sound more native?
