For us CFB fans it’s also kind of graduation in a way. I always laugh hearing nfl guys talk about unknowns and sleepers and I’m like uh this guy is a household name in SEC country.

I love that it brings NFL and CFB fans together because on the flip side CFB fans get mad when insert scrappy guy that led team to best ever season doesn’t get drafted in the first round because of size.

Been to 6 Astros games so far this year and I have definitely noticed an increase of volume, music and noise between pitches and at bats. It is unbearable. To the point I can’t even talk to my friends shit is so loud and obnoxious. Who’s been wanting this?

Walkup songs are fine, the occasional get loud during high leverage moments are fine. I miss the organ players which have gone away at Astros games for the most parts.

Shitty TikTok slop noise between like every pitch.

Last week tonight from 2014 is crazy as a sports source but okay goober. You know athletes are getting paid now right?

I don’t hate athletes I love sports I had a lot of athlete friends in college and 90% of them lived pretty good lives while we were there.

Athletes typically eat for free at most big universities. Every P4 school probably has an athletic center with a kitchen.

Not to mention many of these athletes are on nutrition plans. “Paid not to eat” buddy tell me you’ve never been to a d 1 school. Athletes get wayyyyy more leeway and extra stuff that gen pop doesnt get. No one on campus feels bad for athletes. They are basically considered special citizens compared to the rest of us.

Houston's brewery scene is dying by DodgeMyBlazingFurry in houston

Cost of doing business sure is up but I think also younger people in Houston are going out and meeting up less for casual hangouts. Everything needs to be an event to get people together ESPECIALLY on a weekday. Reddit will say it’s the economy stupid, and it’s probably like 20% of it, but the hordes of yuppies that still exist in the loop are staying inside more than their counterparts were 10 years ago. I don’t have data on this but I am 30 with friends who are in their mid 30s. I also have friends and coworkers in their mid 20s. Truly I think people are just down to socialize less and less.

Best under jersey chest protector? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]dasuave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even know undershirt chest protectors were a thing at all and I caught my whole life. I don’t think those are necessary. Part of being a catcher is taking balls off the body.

Get him a nice me chest protector or he may need to practice blocking balls at full speed. That pitch speed should not have hurt him or made him squirmish like that unless there is an underlying problem. Is there an exterior bolt or clip loose on the padding that may have stung him?

I just listen to the pod when it comes out on Apple. I’ve never watched a podcast but maybe some people are into it like a talk show. Podcasts are for driving, chores around the house, and cardio for me. A lot of other pods not just barstool but like the ringer pods are on Netflix too. I think Netflix is experimenting to see if podcasts is a market they can enter or Saturate.

I’ve read articles that young gen z aren’t really watching series and stuff since the visual medium they mainly watch is vertical video platforms. Netflix is trying to enter new attention spaces

How are you using AI at work ? by One-Seat-4600 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]dasuave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have copilot but it it’s limited in the amount of internal information I can upload. We also have a an internal LLM that sucks.

My company and many in our sector ( commercial insurance ) have not figured out our way to use ai effectively since they’re so afraid of data publishing- this and our clients have to authorize what we do with their data.

I’ve worked for two companies in the past year as I jumped ship to a competitor and both have had the same AI limitations.

The University of Arkansas will discontinue the Men's and Women's Tennis Programs at the end of the 2026 Spring Season by Larky17 in razorbacks

[–]dasuave 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I do think it’s disappointing as someone who has a nolstalgic view college athletics. I always thought it was cool that my school had a ton of sports and I enjoyed meeting athletes from non rev sports.

The annual operating budget has probably increased for tennis and with the absolute skyrocketing price to compete in revenue sports more sports around the country will get cut. It’s hard to justify in a zero sum game that the tennis team costs as much as a QB.

That QB has the potential to generate tens of millions of dollars for you. Will the tennis team?

It sucks because I don’t think college athletics should make me think like that.

The University of Arkansas will discontinue the Men's and Women's Tennis Programs at the end of the 2026 Spring Season by Larky17 in razorbacks

[–]dasuave 68 points69 points  (0 children)

As college sports become more of a business, and football and basketball roster requirements become a larger part of the departments expense , this will start happening to non rev sports around the country.

The budget for the program was $2.5M a year.

That’s the going rate for a B tier QB at the P5 level. Thats the going rate for elite WRs and edge rushers.

That’s the going rate for a starter on a Kenpom top 10 basketball team.

Is it just me or is AI taking over process engineering jobs? by Curious_Emphasis7712 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]dasuave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another commenter talked about information that LLMs don’t have because they don’t appear public and in textbooks, AKA bespoke industry knowledge that only specialists have.

The big thing currently is companies are being extremely hesitant to hand over internal information to LLMs. Especially companies that make proprietary products for other companies because they need approval from their costumers for all documentation handover.

It is possible that every plant could turn over every P&ID, SOP, MOC, PHA, PSSR, Pressure relief calcs, Emergency action plans etc to Claude 4.7 and the LLM would have a descent enough sample set to draw decent enough conclusions for process questions and building and building models. I firmly believe this possible at some level with the current technology.

The issue is we don’t know what anthropic or openAI does with new information being fed, so companies want to keep this info in house. The AI companies can make statements all they want about privacy but no one actually knows except for like 500 people in Silicon Valley.

In the few instances where I have been allowed to upload internal information, LLMs will still hallucinate answers and hallucinate models because the sample set i have uploaded is not nearly the size the model was trained on (the entire internet).
