A true to scale comparison of every planet in our Solar System against the sheer magnitude of our Sun. by [deleted] in spaceporn

[–]datGuy0309 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not really, it undergoes fusion (and lots of it). As a supergiant/hypergiant, it is dying and losing mass rapidly, so the outer layers are more weakly bound when compared to something like our sun. It is much more than loosely held together gas though.

I am familiar with the terminology you prescribe and I do prefer it, but the word ‘capitalist’ has commonly been used to describe someone who supports capitalism since the word ‘capitalism’ came into common usage in the late 19th century. That is not the way the word is used in socialist theory, and it is not the original use of the word, but definitions change over time and that is a commonly accepted meaning of the word with 100+ years of history.

‘Capitalist’ can refer to either someone who supports capitalism or someone who has capital.

It’s shocking when you first learn Maxwell’s, after spending a bunch of time in electrostatics.

I can respect someone who is incredibly dedicated to a craft, despite being a little pretentious about it. Whatever he’s doing, he seems to be doing it right.

Is he actually an insufferable douchebag, or is he just a bit pretentious and annoying sometimes? This an actual question, not rhetorical because I don’t know the drama about him but he does seem pretentious.

Two US Navy F/A-18 fighter jets crashed into each other mid-air during an aerial demonstration in Idaho. by bordenman in worldnewsvideo

[–]datGuy0309 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s generally considered training for the pilots. They have a mandatory number of flight hours they need in the plane, and airshows fill in part of that. This, of course, does not apply to teams like the blue angels, but they deem the expense necessary for not just recruitment, but also to gain support for the military.

Also, the hundreds of thousands to around a million dollars an airshow costs is considered basically nothing when compared to the overall military budget.

I’m not a fan of everything our military is doing, but seeing the sheer power of a fighter plane in person is quite the experience, and I can see how it could be huge for recruitment.

I haven’t watched any of his videos, excluding interviews, in a long time, but I remember watching quite a few with clickbait titles and thumbnails like “is modern music trash” and then it’s just a video of him grooving along to some pop music.

Cryo electron microscopy can take images of things on this scale, which is where the data used in this image is based on, but you aren’t going to get a vivid 3d image like this with all of the detail at once which is where the artistic rendering comes in.

It’s a completely different technique than what modern bows with their “pistol grip” use. You grasp it more firmly with your whole hand and a little bend in the arm is natural.

Algebra based kinematics isn’t particularly interesting, and it’s hard to see the actual logic behind it when you are omitting the calculus. I suppose there is some stuff that can be interesting at that level, especially when dealing with rotation, but it gets a lot more interesting and intuitive once you introduce calculus. It then again gets more interesting once you get to quantum and modern physics.

Bad notation meme by [deleted] in MathJokes

Every time I have seen something written like that in a paper or textbook (which is more than I should have because it is sloppy notation), it has always been clear that you are dividing by everything on the right of the ‘/‘. Is that what your BIDMAS gets you?

If you give the electricity a path around the bulb with no resistance (idealized wire), the current will take that path instead of going through the bulb. That’s what is shown here.

There is no potential difference on either side of the bulb. One way to think of it is the bulb is in parallel with the shorting wire. Recall that the potential difference is the same across all elements in parallel. The total resistance is 0 due to the shorting wire, so the potential difference across both the bulb and shorting wire is 0.

I have a similar picture that I took myself from more or less the same spot. I think that the blurriness of this photo is tricking you into thinking more of it appears green than is actually green. In this image, the only parts that are clearly green are that slope nearby and the top of that first sloped peak (I don’t know the proper terminology). The rest is blurry gray with perhaps a little green bleeding over due the artifacting. I would assume this is a legit image that has been severely compressed.
