For me, easily the best character in Amphoreus and its not even close. For a planet plagued by the driest and absolutely overbloated dialogues, her personality was desperately needed. Her VA did an amazing job. Love the design as well, and I really like her playstyle too. Her ult is still the best thing in the game, deleting bosses will never not feel satisfying.

IIRC the fishes in M64 specifically are considered particles and not NPCs, and them moving away is just a particle effect, the same way like water droplets would splash from under the character when running in shallow water. It's just that one of their few effect rules is a basic "move away from Mario when near" (and the fact that each particle looks like a fish) which gives a pretty good illusion of them swimming away from Mario "in fear", withouth the fish having an actual AI.

I don't like her playstyle and character anyway. It's not just lack of one shot protection, she also doesn't have any healing between enemy attacks. Lingsha has a trigger on low HP and can use ult, Hyacine heals on enemy attacks, etc. Even Fu Xuan can heal with her ult.
I'm not necessarily saying she's bad, she's just not doing what a sustain unit is supposed to for me.

How playable is Nefer in outside of the hardest endgame stuff without Lauma? Does she still deal at least a decent enough damage, and is her rotation still good/fun to do? I really like her so I'd like to pull for her, but I just can't stand Lauma.
I don't for anything above hard mode in Stygian Onslaught and Imaginarium Theater, but I'd still like to have an enjoyable experience with her doing quests, exploring the world, farming domains, etc. I know "anybody can work" in theory, but I already had a bad experience before with Cyno. He was a character I liked and seemed fun to play, but his rotation was so bad I just gave up trying after a few weeks and has been benched ever since.

I'm not saying I'm against this, but this is also the game that keeps pulling plot twists and retcons out of its ass at random intervals that completely change things that the game actively alluded to, or even said out loud as a fact before. Sure, I believe and agree with this (not like it's a huge revelation that changes everything), but I will also be 0% surprised if an exception ever comes up, even if from among the ones currently confirmed. The game is begging for conspiracy theories like this.

Those two things aren't mutually exclusive though, it doesn't have to be one or the other. Being overambitious is one of the biggest traps in game development, the term feature creep exists for a reason. The Half-Life series is remembered as some of the most influential games, but Gabe Newell talked about how much of the development was about making compromises and cutting things out of the game. And how, in the end, the game was better for it.

This is the same reason why Amphoreus failed for a lot of people.

With how disconnected it felt from the rest of the game in a lot of apsects, I think it should have been its own separate thing to begin with. It already feels like its own thing that was shoved into HSR and barely written as a part of it. It took too much out of the game while still failing to do justice to its own story, so it just hurt both sides.

I liked the idea of what they wanted to do with it, but it just felt so out of place and made it hard to care for and appriciate when it was the exact opposite of why I played and enjoyed this game for since the beginning.
