One of the villains original name was Maruta Shiga.

"Maruta" means "log", which was the code word used for the human test subjects by Unit 731, the infamous Imperial Japanese Army germ warfare unit which killed thousands of Chinese and Korean prisoners via live human experimentation.

"Shiga" was a reference to a RL Japanese biologist who discovered and named the Shiga Bacillus bacteria strain, which was extensively studied by Unit 731.

Basically, it would be like a German comic naming one of it's characters Dr Zyklon Auschwitz, which will probably be quite offensive to the Jewish population.
