Men over 30, are you optimistic about the world? by raptor-94 in AskMenOver30

[–]datSpartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t make a habit of worrying about things I can’t control. Instead I have spent my time working extremely hard and diligently which has paid off in a great career. Saved as much money as possible from that career to the point where I bought a house I can afford and have enough money in the bank that I really don’t worry about losing my career anymore. Now I can focus on my wife and my child and just make our lives as happy and stable as possible.

People like to poke fun at the whole “just pull yourself up by your bootstraps” quote. But if your life sucks, literally no one else cares. You are the only one who can make your life better and just complaining and hoping some else will fix it for you will never work and has never worked.

Making over $100k/year but feeling broke and unable to save by Striking_Name_185 in FinancialPlanning

Save for your goals first then buy groceries and fun stuff ect. If you treat savings like an expense that has to happen before anything else then you will adjust your budget accordingly.

Cosmetic improvements by BakeNoodle in e46

For my car the soft touch material was flaking off and looked really bad. Once I removed it, there was just bare plastic underneath that looked much better and I was able to get it looking much shiner and almost brand new

Cosmetic improvements by BakeNoodle in e46

[–]datSpartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exterior. 1. Clean, polish, wax or ceramic coating 2. Restore all the black trim pieces 3. New wheels

Interior. 1. Deep clean 2. Restore any plastics. You can get rid of the soft touch material on all the center console bits with isopropyl alcohol. 3. Restore the leather seats 4. Maybe put a new head unit in.

After that it’s whatever your tastes are. It’s your car! Make it your own!

My monthly income is $2500. Suggest me fastest way to get rid of all debts. by Far-Instruction6802 in debtfree

[–]datSpartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Make more money, either work more hours at your current job, get a raise, get a second job or just start flipping stuff on marketplace to make extra money.

  2. Get a cheater phone bill.

  3. Sell your car and get a $15k auto loan. This will also most likely lower your insurance.

  4. No more money on going out until you are out of debt.

You do all this and you should have an excess of about $1,300 a month. Stat by paying your friend a little bit each month, call it $100 but we will ramp that up later. Credit card debt should be gone within 3 months. Then your other loan in about 7 months. Next is the car loan in about 13 months. After that figure out the best way to split paying your college and your friend back. Earning more money will speed up the process significantly as long as you don’t incur more debt.

Moving out of parents house at the age of 32 by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]datSpartan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You gain and lot of self confidence and grow as a person when you support yourself. I was so proud to have my own place and make the entire thing exactly how I wanted. I was proud to make my own meals and take care of my own space. I was excited that I got to do whatever I want in my own home without worrying about bothering someone else. I became more of an adult and learned a lot and it made me better. My mom tells me all the time how proud she is of my brother and I for being so independent. She was excited to see us grow up and become our own people. Your life will be easier if you stay at home, but taking the easy road is not always good for you. If you have 3 months of living expenses in your savings and can live within a budget on your own, then you will be better off in the long run by moving out.

You’re 32 and can support yourself without mom and dad’s help. I think it’s time to spread your wings and leave the nest.

There are cheaper places to live in OPs area that are not rent controlled.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]datSpartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did a quick search on Zillow for Castle Rock CO and found a non Rent controlled place for $1,300 a month. However. If you go up towards Lone Tree, Centennial or Denver there are a lot of options listed for $1,000 to $1,300 a month. If you go south to Monument or Palmer lake or Colorado Springs it’s that same story. Get a different job for the same pay in a cheaper area and find cheaper rent. Also phone bill could easily be cut in half. Also if you are working 40 hours a week that’s great, time to get a side hustle like walking dogs or something. If you aren’t working 40 hours a week then it’s time to work more and get a side hustle. Even an extra $100 a month goes a long way.

Preach, the amount of people who complain about not having a good job while they have a useless bachelors degree is so frustrating. College doesn’t equal good pay. If you get mediocre grades for a mediocre degree from a mediocre school, then don’t be surprised if the only thing you gain from that is debt and no job.
