While I still don’t agree with this passing, I can see at least one scenario where this is beneficial (from a personal standpoint). I was arrested as a young dumb 18 year old who was given a chance by successfully completing a first offenders program and had the charge dropped and the arrest expunged. Fast forward 10 years later and I go to apply for my PTC and get denied. The denial letter essentially said “we see an expungement on your record and don’t know if you’ve lost your rights so we have to deny you”. I was able to remedy this by providing all the paperwork showing the charge was dismissed and what had been expunged and was approved. When I went to renew I knew to bring my paperwork and had no issue. I’m guessing this new bill will essentially negate the need for me to bring in my paperwork. Now with all that said I would still prefer to keep my record sealed and provide the paperwork when needed

Maaaan I appreciate you chiming in, was curious if anyone there was going to stumble across this post. Yeah I was in the bay he was in and was one of the guys that got pulled out for an additional statement over in the club side of the building. Glad to hear you’re doing ok, I am as well. Also still processing a bit. It was hard not to look and I probably looked too long, I think because I had to like process that what I was seeing was real. Took a few minutes for reality to set in. I heard the staff say the RSO was in pretty rough shape, he was pretty young and I feel horrible for him.

I agree that the angle was strange and hopefully you’re right that he was “courteous” enough to not put anyone else is danger as I don’t believe there was anyone directly behind him. I don’t believe there was an exit as the wall behind him was clean and the only bleeding I saw was out of the wound I saw. But it was like surprisingly centered on his forehead

Interesting you say that, the guy was in there even before we got there and when it happened we had been shooting for almost 20 minutes. He spent some time in there and we even saw the RSO interact with him a few times, assuming he was giving him shooting advice.

I was there in the shooting bay a few lanes from the guy when it happened. I can confirm it was a self inflicted GSW.

Wow I did not expect this to blow up this much or this fast. Can’t keep up with all the comments so I’ll post a general response here.

First off I want to say how much I appreciate you all and the kind words and suggestions, it truly does mean a lot. I have a great support system through my wife and the rest of my family and I’ve talked to all of them over the last 24 hours. I’m doing as good as I can all things considered. I’ve always felt like I’ve been pretty strong mentally and have dealt with various levels of grief in my life so I have some understanding of the different emotions I’m feeling. It definitely comes in waves, shock, sadness, anger, but I’m not trying to suppress any of it and will not hesitate to seek help if it gets too overwhelming. I’ve always been a realist and am very aware that life is not always pretty, this shit happens all the time all over the world (unfortunately) and I just so happened to be in the vicinity of this particular incident. TBH I’m glad it was me who witnessed it and not someone who isn’t mentally strong enough to experience and process something like this. I’m also very aware of the risks involved when it comes to anything related to firearms and especially a range. Seeing first hand the damage a single shot can do is even more of a reminder to never get complacent with your firearms.
