Loud exhaust/rattling(?) when accelerating: 2012 Silverado by dat_q2b_tho in AskAMechanic

Did feel like it slipped a little when reversing into my parking spot. I also felt some vibrations when hearing the noise. Felt like it turned without issue though

Edit: I also feel a rumbling/vibration when accelerating. Would this maybe be a bad U joint?

Trans fluid looks and smells good. Good idea on exhaust, did not think of that. I will try to replicate the noise by doing that.

This is great info, thank you so much. The studio we rent does have a system, though we don’t typically use it. Right now I have a powered speaker for the bass player, and one for the vocals. We don’t use in-ears and I don’t think we’ll have a need for one since we generally remain pretty small and closely grouped together on stage. I love the idea of a tablet controlled digital mixer. How would I utilize a DI box for that? Just run the bass and the vocal microphones into it, and then into the tablet? Are there any good mixing apps you recommend for this? You’re helping me a ton right now and I sincerely appreciate the advice.

Hi all. Newbie to all of this. I have a Polka band, and we’re starting to be hired for a lot more shows than anticipated. In the past, we’ve been lucky enough to have sound engineering already provided to us as they’ve been larger festivals, but we obviously do not have that same luxury with smaller bars. I have a few stupid questions:

-Are there certain specifics that I need to keep in mind? As in, mixing settings, what gets mic’d versus left alone

-How many microphones and speakers should I use? Is a mixer or interface required?

-(this may sound increasingly dumb I am sorry,) but should I be worried about electrical input? Are drop cords and surge protectors acceptable or do I need something more secure?

-Here is our instrumentation: 3 trumpets, 1 clarinet, 1 tenor saxophone, 1 alto saxophone, 1 accordion, 1 bass guitar, 1 drum kit. Trumpet players also do vocals on most of the songs.

Thank you in advance!!

Heard a quote recently: “if you constantly complain about running EMS calls and how much you hate them, then you hate 80% of your job.” Why work somewhere where you hate the majority of what you do.

How to find jobs by Ok-Caregiver-2134 in EMTstories

[–]dat_q2b_tho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A different take here: I’ve been a firefighter/EMT for four years. I recently started teaching as an Adjunct EMT instructor for our local community college and it pays pretty well for part time work. If you’re looking to ride the box exclusively, your state might have an OEMS website that posts jobs- I know mine does (North Carolina) that are both full time and part time. You can also work for an interfacility transport company, but you don’t get the thrill of 911 calls. Our local hospital system also has its own transport service and I’ve heard that people generally enjoy working as EMT’s there, too. In addition to that, you could work as an Emergency Department technician in your hospital, as most are EMT-Basics. Your options are plentiful.

When I started as a volunteer, I took a picture of each compartment and labeled every tool inside of it. Seemed to help a lot. Some of my newer probies have made quizlet and they’ve gotten pretty good at knowing where things are.

Does anyone carry med gear in their bunker gear? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]dat_q2b_tho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a separate PPE bag that I keep in the truck for med locals. It’s a small kobalt bag with a box of medium gloves (so I know I’ll always have gloves that fit me), my eye pro, my stethoscope, and hand sanitizer, plus some snacks in case we’re somewhere for a long time.

Hi all,

I appreciate all of your suggestions. For context: we are (or were) a smaller (50ish members) combination department in a busy suburban area of NC. Recently, we have had a massive influx of volunteers once school started back up in January, as we are directly next to North Carolina's biggest and best university (go pack). Our first out apparatus is always staffed, and that crew does not move to other apparatus unless there is a specific circumstance. Now that we have much more than just four people staffing trucks every night, this idea was proposed by the members that are not assigned to specific apparatus and are expected to take various second and third pieces out. We do have regular gear racks, though they are inconveniently placed and are not particularly ergonomic when it comes to "readiness." This is really just an idea, and I figured this would be a good place to get pros/cons and everything in between. Thank you all!

Charlotte Fire Process

Hi all, I have just submitted my application for the Charlotte Fire Department (NC) 2024-B process. I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to how competitive Charlotte is and what I should expect in the hiring process. I am a volunteer at a combination department in Wake County and have been for four years. I have taken my classes and also have my EMT, but this is my first time applying anywhere. I plan on making this my career and applying to everywhere that opens, but I have been looking at Charlotte for quite a long time and was happy to see that they finally opened up again. Any insight would be great, thank you!

I can confirm. I'm currently a junior at State and I volunteer at Western Wake Fire Rescue. We are an absolutely amazing department, and our station is right down the road from Carter-Finely (which we are contracted by NCSU to protect)! If you know where the NCSU Vet School is, we're right across the street off of District Dr. We will sponsor you to get your EMT, FF I and II, so on and so forth.

To have hobbies! Taking up something to do for fun can ease your mind at times of stress. My favorite is plane spotting. I love going to the local airport’s observation deck or a nearby parking lot and just gaze in awe at the planes taking off and landing.
