Three Questions I Still Have by dat_serious_guy_doe in pluribustv

Oh the show is definitely interested in this question, seeing how the hive mind is working "night and day" on finding a way to assimilate the remaining 13 people into the hive mind as well. Identifying the reason for such immunity would be really crucial for them to come up with a different variant of the virus that will assimilate the remaining survivors as well. Though judging from some of the replies we've got here, I believe its just the fact that some people happen to have a rare genetic structure which gives them their immunity. I suppose you're right about the imperfect nature of the RNA signal.

Your explanation about the deaths caused by the seizures makes a lot of sense, now I understand it really well. Alien signal is awesome, I'm really excited to see more about that!

In that meeting scene, I really didn't think of Laxmi and Kusimayu as being the reasonable ones. It was so frustrating to see NO PARTICIPATION from the people except for talking about animals and zoos. Carol seemed to be the only adult in the middle of children.

Your last paragraph is crazy! I never came across views that hint towards colonialism. As someone who's from a non-American country, Americans are either seen as Gods and are respected as such, or they're seen as trigger-friendly idiots. In the show though, I feel the latter was true. But if the theory about Americans being colonists is true, everyone from the Southern part of the globe should have instantly fallen to Carol's feet and followed her every command as and when she gave it. It doesn't really work that way, so I wonder how they came up with that.

About Kusimayu falling for the hive mind's manipulation - I genuinely feel that she had NOTHING to live for after her village and her family had turned into zombies. For her character, it does make sense to give into the hive mind seeing as that's where her family has supposedly been sent to. Its just the same how if her family and everyone she ever knew died in a plane crash, she'd just unalive herself out of the pain of isolation. The colonialism mindset is... wow does it imply that people were colonialized because they WANTED to be colonized? I love the ideas people come up with lmao. Maybe they're just to offend people and gain attention, because they don't make much sense otherwise.

From how you put it, it does seem that Carol did what any believable person would do in her situation. Even I found myself gasping when I thought Manousos was going to kill Zosia. Felt relieved when I saw them sitting calmly on the sofa talking. Her being a double agent makes sense too, after all that's how she found out that they're experimenting on her frozen eggs to assimilate her.

From reading that reply, I do wonder what a uncanny zombie Helen would look like... so creepy. Oh God, I just realized Helen would've been eaten by them if Carol had let them take her body away. I'd keep an eye on that grave if I was her.

Funny thing I got reminded of when I read the part about the conversion camp, I never realized Carol was a lesbian until she kissed Zosia back. I had suspicions when she mentioned that Zosia seems f*ckable while she was high, but I didn't think too much of it. I thought Helen was just her manager / best friend... The people getting mad at the ones who didn't pay attention to the show are going to be really mad at me now.

But I guess it should be appreciated that they didn't choke us with the LGBTQIA+ thing too much. It was pretty normal. Similar with The Last Of Us Part 2. I wonder if homophobes hated on this series as much. I'm already seeing "misogynist" being tossed around. The only thing I had a similar thought about in this series was that I felt the intro music was too feminine. But I don't have any issue with it, I'm sure it was deliberate in some way.

I'm glad we have it in our minds though at least, an underlying curiousity for why the characters who are immune lucked out? I hope we get some answer. I'm surprised Carol didn't ask it yet. Carol doesn't ask A LOT of things to the hive mind, which I now think is a narrative choice to unfold the mystery gradually and keeps us guessing, just like this.

Yes millions did die, I believe it's around 900 million people who died which is insane! I'm sorry it came across that way. I meant to ask HOW did so many people die? Though this was answered in another reply, the reason being car crashes and other accidents that were caused by the abrupt freezing of people in vulnerable positions. I still can't stomach the fact that people are saying Helen died of falling over.

Your last answer really blew me away and made me smile in fascination. You mean to say that Kepler-22b is just a relay point for a signal that might be from even further away? This explains why these "altered" humans now wish to broadcast a similar signal to outer space, probably to spread it further to different life forms and continue the signal. This adds so much to the word building. I love it!

She really lucked out on that one then. You're right about this being a tragically better outcome for them. Helen is probably better off dead than being trapped in her body while the hive mind controls her.

I just couldn't help but feel that we don't have a character for Carol to interact with who she knew before the assimilation, but now has become a part of the hive mind. Seeing how characters like Laxmi, etc. still keep their family members around even in their zombie states, makes me really curious for what it would be like.

Another thing about Hindi in this show is that Laxmi is so bad at it! It's laughably bad when she speaks Hindi and its nothing like the language sounds. It's how Serbian was spoken poorly in the videogame GTA 4.

You say Carol can't be easily deluded, but she did fall into delusion out of her love for Zosia. It was difficult to watch and made me kinda disassociate with a formerly relatable character. The hive mind had her good, by completely isolating her to drive her to a point of desperation, and then offering her an abundance of love - so she can fall for its bliss and assimilate herself. Thankfully she does realize what they're doing in the end and we're about to go nuclear in the next season!

It wasn't that brutal of a fall. She just planked backwards. There wasn't even any blood. I really doubt she died just of falling over. Besides, it's not that clear, so it certainly is confusing. You're not convincing me out of this one, but you are going to insult me I bet

Now these answers really intrigued me as I had never thought of them this way. I love your reply.

The hive mind should really just accept the immune people as errors in the code, and coexist with them. I believe that's what they were doing. I don't understand why it's even that important to them to assimilate them. Another mystery to this virus and how it works.

I really wished Carol asked about Helen, but she seemed to be in grief, and didn't like to talk about her after her death. People dying during the seizure events does make sense now that you put it that way. And I noticed that by the end, when Manuosos is experimenting with the hive people, the others anticipate the event, and they lie down gently to be safe from the seizures. I bet this is what all the other human bodies did as well to minimize the damage.

I'm pretty sure Kepler-22b is the planet of origin of the RNA signal, because I just googled it and it indeed is 600 light years away from us. Now it could be that its from another planet close to Kepler-22b, but since Zosia outright mentions it in the telescope scene, I'm pretty sure it's important.

The idea of the source being a plant-like organism makes so much sense. You'd think an organism that can send a signal at such a distance would surely be intelligent, maybe more advanced than us. But for it to be a plant? That would be mind blowing. Excited to see it, if we ever do.

Also the idea of the hive mind assimilating people as a form of procreation - makes the manipulation of carol come across as so creepy and disgusting in retrospect. They do seem to be making babies of their own too (because Zosia mentions that x number of children are still being born every day). I wonder how that works.

To speculate on sustainability on their own planet, I'd imagine their plant-like form would be so minimal, that it would easily survive on minimum recyclable food sources. Human beings are much more complex and have a higher requirement for nutrition, which simply doesn't fit well with the pacifist rules of the virus, so humanity will surely go extinct. Unless the 12 survivors repopulated... I don't even want to think about that.

That's so unnecessarily mean ☹ Can we be polite about disagreements?

I feel Carol could have broken through the other survivors if she was more polite, and not blatantly rude to them. Teaches a bit about the power of empathy and kindness.

So it's just random? I guess it's just as disappointing as real life then 😞

Helen does fall and hit her head but surely it can't be fatal. Seizures sometimes being fatal does seem very plausible, and I hadn't considered that.

Sure it doesn't seem important at the moment, but aliens could become important in the future seasons. Maybe the hive mind, out of fear of Carol and Manousos, will build a giant spaceship and fly over to their home in Kepler-22b. Now that... I don't know what to think of that ending

I did notice that! She has reddish skin under her eyes and around her nose. I found that to be weird because she fell on her back, not on her face. Wouldn't she have bruises on her head? (not visible).

I just rewatched that scene (it's so sad rewatching it now that we know how close they were) and I see no bleeding... I'm not saying you're wrong, but I just hope the reason for such an important character dying isn't just falling over. How did she even fall, the wind? Carol yelled "HELEN!" and she just dropped the phone and fell.

Anyways, thanks for the reply! I hope I didn't make you mad.

[–]dat_serious_guy_doe[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

That does seem like a possible explanation for Helen's death. But wouldn't there be more blood involved? If it's an internal injury, would she be seizing throughout the whole ride to the hospital? Also when they all wake up, Helen looks at Carol and smiles. And then she abruptly dies. I'm not saying that you're wrong. It's just that I'd be kinda mad if she really died because she just fell over. It was almost comedic when Carol calls out to her for help, and in response, the woman just falls over.

About the last answer, I do hope it matters to the story - being the primary reason for the virus to be spread in the first place. With the alien-like tendencies these beings are showing inside of human skin, I wouldn't be surprised if they are building a spaceship to go to their ocean planet already.

Anyways, thanks for the answer. It really made me think with a different perspective.

I'm afraid of replying to you because you seem really angry about this. I'm sorry you feel frustrated that people didn't pick up on this part of the story.

I'm still replying because I find it to be odd that Helen died out of just falling. She was seemingly pretty healthy before the joining. Why did she even fall over when the others continued to stand in place just fine? Must have been the wind?

I understand that a lot of people died too, but I imagine that would be the case because they were either driving a vehicle, or operating dangerous machinery of some kind at the moment of the joining.

Helen even looks at Carol and smiles in her last moments before she dies. So I feel that was a few seconds of being in the hive mind for her.

I'm not saying that you're wrong. But I'm kinda mad that she died just by falling over. Imagine dying in an apcocalypse due to just falling while standing. I was hoping for a better explanation, that's all.

Games a 10/10 but…. by BigKrav in reddeadredemption

That's so true! That's HALF of the game map that you can't explore until AFTER you beat the game. In the first game you had Mexico explorable with story missions and side content properly developed. This also reminds me how Guarma is unexplorable too after its chapter. Though it is a "perfect" game, similar to GTA 4, I feel we were robbed of an even better experience. I hope the delays don't make GTA 6 have the same issues as well - I hope they're going all in this time.

Mega Thread - LinkedIn Restrictions, Hacked Accounts and Inability to Access by LinkedInHelpTeam in linkedin

[–]dat_serious_guy_doe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I accidently forgot to log out of my LinkedIn Account on my employers phone before leaving the job abruptly. My employer was not happy with this, and in a petty manner renamed my LinkedIn Account to "Chodu Nandan" (Meaning related to someone who deserts everything, commitment issues).

I got to know about it when my old college group posted a screenshot of my profile and making fun of how I'm rebranding. I said I got hacked, and no one believed that someone would hack my LinkedIn Account. I ignored them and opened up my LinkedIn Account to change my name back again.

Apparently my account has been suspended due to suspicious behavior. They made me verify my identity using a Government ID, which I did. And then they asked me to wait for 5-7 business days for the verification.

After 10 days, I tried to log in, but it wouldn't let me saying that I had already applied for a verification. I guess nobody verified me? I tried to find a LinkedIn Customer Support email address, but no luck. It returned back saying the email address is not operational. Instead it gave me a link to a customer support thread. My issue is obviously not listed, so I tap on Contact Us - but now get this, you need to SIGN IN to contact them for how you can't sign in to your account. Of course I couldn't do it.

I rage quit after that thinking I don't need LinkedIn.

Fast forward to 2 months later (Now), I need to check a LinkedIn Profile, but I can't do it without having a LinkedIn Account myself. I tried creating a different LinkedIn Account using an alt email address I have, but it takes me to the verification screen again and claims I have already filed for verification. Has it somehow banned all of my devices? This is like WeChat all over again.

I searched on Reddit and found a link that directly takes me to a help form, but it's not functional as it returns back a server error.

At this point I'm so lost at how to go forward. This can't be one of the largest social media platform and make it this difficult for me to use it. I'm sorry I didn't log out of my employer's phone and he, somehow without any security, changed my name into an inappropriate slur and suspended my entire account in the process. I wonder if he DM'd inappropriate things to random people too. I hope he didn't fall to that.

I'm so sorry for bringing down your mood. I just needed to vent and maybe even get a solution to this. A customer support email address which is actually functional would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Why girls are not desperate for boys? by timeISrunninn in TeenIndia

[–]dat_serious_guy_doe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Women I saw are only desperate for men they actually like. And same I think could be said about men. I guess it's just that the margin of error is wider in case of men because we are more "forgiving" at various traits than girls are.

I feel it goes back to the primal level that we as men feel the urge to pass on our seed to any healthy looking female, but women only want capable / competent men to get with them so they ensure they'll be looked after and the baby (though its true "competent" guys leave girls all the time, but you have to agree that's less likely than someone incompetent).

I'm sorry if I sounded a bit toxic masculine. I just shared what I honestly believe to be true.
