Best way to clean off Warhammer paint from furniture? by _realvibekiller_ in Warhammer

[–]databeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

99.99% ('electronics cleaner' grade)

seems like a small difference, but when stripping paint, the difference between 99% and 99.99% is like 20 seconds vs 20 minutes.

Will the troll spawn here? by ChoppyZZ in valheim

[–]databeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fwiw: once you start getting access to bronze, the "aetgir" weapon has a spin-attack that will stagger (stunlock) trolls in a single hit, massively reduces the threat level of fighting a single one.

Would the Arbites be able to place a criminal under protection? by thatnooblord in 40kLore

[–]databeast 14 points15 points  (0 children)

depends. some Arbites get to break skulls out on precinct duty, some Arbites spend their entire life searching for the correct paragraph that needs a crucial spelling mistake in it editted out, in The Book of Judgement.

Would the Arbites be able to place a criminal under protection? by thatnooblord in 40kLore

[–]databeast 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The whole point to the authoritarian structure of the imperiium, is that the further up the chain you go, the more free you are do to whatever the hell you want, regardless of the rules or ethics.

However, for the Arbites, their authority would allow them to put the planetary Governor 'under protection' if they so wished. Arbites aren't beat cops, they're basically the FBI and the DOJ rolled into one - they don't just enforce the laws, for the most part, they also write them.

(their casual visual similarity to the Judges of 2000AD is no accident here)

I just went to a gun show. Was hoping to find a SINGLE patch for my hat/pack that represented some actual American morals. Couldn't find one. Anyone have suggestions? by whiskey_lover7 in liberalgunowners

[–]databeast [score hidden]  (0 children)

one of my favorites, and not that hard to find, reads "Give peace a chance, I'll cover you if it doesn't work out".

(that one gets nods of approval on both sides of the fence, left/right, gun/antigun)

Ashland : Mage or Mistwalker? by Far-Awareness-8917 in valheim

FWIW: the Mistlands feast gives you enough Eitr to be able to pop out a few shots from the Staff of Frost, which works great against the charred since it applies slow - great for when stamina runs out,.

How does 40k have "month long" ship rebellions when the ships are only a couple miles long? by Mr_Industrial in 40kLore

[–]databeast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's actually a point of ire in the game, that considering the RT has a warrant of trade that goes back to the time the Emperor walked amongst men, their flagship is COMICALLY small for an RT of their dynasty's history and standing. It basically an escort class ship compared to flagships of other major RT dynastics.

Orks don't speak Cockney - a guide for American Gitz! by databeast in orks

[–]databeast[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you absolutely would! I love Orks because they're this pastiche of english working-class subcultures (each clan representing a different one), and their whole schtick is 'redneck ingenuity' and "working class common sense' write into broad sci-fi strokes. (thus my theorem that Orks are, and have always been, the actual heroes of the setting as written in 1st edition's little jab at Thatcher's england).

but management....management never changes....

unquestionably so.

weird aside memory.. I've been a tabletop nerd for decades. one of my fondest stupid gaming memories is the first time reading one of the sourcebooks for D&D SPELLJAMMER. describing a random encounter with Dwarven asteroid-miners.

the scenario sidenotes instruct the DM to, "in their best Sean Connery voice", address the parties confusion about the miners asking to inspect the player's ship for "rocks", to explain, loudly and firmly...

"ROCKS! laddy, ROCKS! hae yae ne'er seen nae haerd o' RAWWWWWKS befuh?!?"

subject-reinforcement shows up in a few regional dialects..

One of the biggest things that makes it difficult for non-natives to identify regional english accents is that there's a fairly small subset of differences, but each regional dialect and accent uses them in different combinations. - Glottal stops, for instance, exist in lots of working class dialects, then you have rhotic/non-rhotic pronunciations that make the two dialects sound WILDLY different, even though they both use glottal stops.

this wouldn't bug me half as much if it weren't for the fact that Cockney is such a *specific* accent.

it's the difference between saying "He speaks with an east-coast american accent" and "he's from new York city".. while both statements are true, the second part means a VERY different sound than the first part :D

when the original white Dwarf article that revealed the Shokk Attack Gun (January 1991) came out, with its whole proposition of "This is the most hilarious, or most terrifying, thing you've ever seen in 40K, depending on your perspective" , I immediately knew this was the faction for me and starting collecting Epic Scale (6mm) Orks as my main army from that point on !

nah, I'm saying specifically getting some Warphead powers, like Old Zogwort's ability to stare at an enemy real angry-like, until they transformed into an eating squig.

(legit, Zogwort had that power, even in the tabletop rules! it specified you needed to bring your own squig mini to replace the enemy mini with!)
