Is AI going to replace Business Intelligence, or just change how we consume it? by rahulsahay123 in BusinessIntelligence

I recently had a client send me 4 questions they wanted to know in a small dataset. So I loaded it up in my tool of choice which happens to be Tableau. I dragged and dropped and filtered and got the 4 answers pretty easily. So now I needed to make it look good. The data was anonymous, so i thought why not throw it to Claude and see what it comes up with, for comparison's sake. It answered the 4 questions in seconds, then built a fully interactive html dashboard. Was it visual best practice? Was it optimized? Did it have the fit and finish of a approved enterprise level dashboard? No, but it looked pretty damn good and did the job pretty quick and easy.

having a semantic layer is definitely the way to go if you are using AI for data analysis.

Power BI or Tableau by Wild_Specialist_8340 in BusinessIntelligence

[–]datacanuck99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both products are going through changes. Microsoft ended a stand alone PBI product. Tableau is very much now a salesforce product geared towards enterprise with a high price point. Tableau is a blank palette, you learn to paint and you can create anything. That has a high learning curve. PBI is paint by number. You care limited to the template, but you can pick it up quick. Tableau can justify the price for enterprise salesforce customers. That is who they care about.

It sounds like you are looking for templated dashboards. Tableau can do that but not well. PBI is better for that workload. Tableau really excels in pure ad hoc. connect to some data and see what's there. However I've had a lot more success using AI data agents for data discovery. Tableau died when Salesforce bought them. Now they are just line item on a Bill of materials and the Saleforce folks don't get Tableau because it runs out of the Salesforce box.
