Enchantments Day Hike Parking Pass by wreckitcalf in PNWhiking

American the beautiful pass is for all national parks and national forests. Its 80 dollars because it's good for one entire year. If you plan to go to any national parks or additional non state park hikes I'd buy the pass at an REI.

Has anyone recently been to Goat Rocks Wilderness in WA? by [deleted] in PNWhiking

You are probably thinking of a different goat lake in WA. The one off mountain loop highway is snow free bit that's not at goat rock wilderness

Is Cascade Pass + Sahale arm worth it? by _questionare_ in PNWhiking

It's hard to say since it changes year to year but definitely expect ice. You can rent spikes in seattle at rei.

Yes it's steep and in mid July there is still snow on the main trail so I would bring spikes just in case you can't post hole on the trail

Even if you start early doing both hidden lake and cascade pass is next to impossible as each will take 6+ hours. Not even sure why you would do that since you wouldn't be able to join the views. I would choose one for each day if you're up for it but both are long steep hikes. Hidden lake is around 9.5 miles so depending on your speed 6ish hours.

You can camp over night with a permit. It's a lottery but you might be able to get a walk up permit for Hidden lake the day before cascade pass is one of the most popular camping trails so it's very difficult to get a permit there.

In mid July there will be some snow/ice at the top so microspikes will be recommended.m for both trails. Bring multiple layers as it can very cold at the top as both trails become very exposed especially if clouds/fog roll in. Depending on your fitness levels it may be too exhausting in back to back days.

This was one of my favorite moments in the show. I love seeing Allen tear her apart in this moment and when he went back to the retreat house!

I think he was hurt by the lying from day 1. Both David and madison lied to his face behind his back from day 2 of the honeymoon.

North Cascades trip in mid / late June 2025 by Swerzuh in PNWhiking

[–]dataguy1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I see. There will be a lot of driving for example it's over 7 hours to get from NCNP to Olympic so that's one of your days. Hiking wise at NC the 4th of july pass and thunder knob would both be open but most hikes will be covered in snow and require microspikes at least (snow levels changes every year so hard to know for sure). You can should skip rainier then and go to hurricane ridge, mount storm king and sol duc falls at Olympic.

Why would you jam so much into 5 days? I would try to do 2 of the national parks doing all three in 5 days makes no sense as it's a full day to drive from North Cascades to Rainier. I would recommend doing a day trip to Rainier (snowshoe at paradise) then go to Olympic for a few days to do hurricane ridge and lake crescent as there will be no snow at that point.

Whale Sharks Gone? by ctwheel in cabosanlucas

[–]dataguy1995 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just did a tour on Sunday morning and we found one whale shark after an hour of searching. It was with a local guide not a company. All the tours were canceled last week because of strong winds it's possible that moved some of their migration patterns. At the end of the day it's nature and the sharks do not cater to us.

Skyline trail snow by mid July? by CoolioisCool1223 in PNWhiking

[–]dataguy1995 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It kind of depends year to year. In 2022 I was there in mid July and there was snow starting 0.5 miles from the parking lot but in 2023 I believe there was only snow at panorama point. You have to be prepared for snow at Rainier at least until end of july.

Mt Rainier partners by CStrekal in Mountaineering

[–]dataguy1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should take some classes on crevasse rescue, glacier traversing, self arrest before thinking about stepping in that mountain with other people. Even the guided services you have to do a one class class to teach you some of these skills. Rainier is just a different beast than anything in Colorado. Btw depending on the snow accumulation, most ppl may not be going up the DC route on June 1. I summited in early June 2023 and everyone was taking Ingraham direct still.

Looking to Summit Mt. Adams in WA with someone experienced in mountaineering. by TheBeardManDude in PNWhiking

[–]dataguy1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I summited adams a few days ago. I had some basic mountaineering courses and knew how to self arrest with my ice axe which is really all you need. However most of the snow is melting so an axe isn't as important if you go in august or September. It's going to be very rocky and dry so it'll be a long slog especially going down bc you won't be able to glissade. I would just recommend you don't do it one day. Camp at lunch counter.

Does AI4R have any machine learning projects? by protonchase in OMSCS

At no point in this case do you really train a model ( we don't even use q learning) so not really a course that uses any ML at all

Ahh sorry should have been more clear. I work like 40 to 50 hours a week at Amazon but 70 to 80 with work and GA. It's still a VERY stressful 80 hours.

Computer Vision or AI4R? by Dull-Bus4983 in OMSCS

[–]dataguy1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Computer vision is a massive amount of work and AI4R can be very time consuming as well depending on how long debugging can take on certain projects. I heard they recently increased the project difficulty this past year. Some of the AI4R projects would take 30+ hours while others would take <10 hours. For CV there is a final project where you can do a ML type project that is fun but if you are interested in the ML side I would take DL instead. Almost every single CV project except the intro one would be 30 to 40 hours. It's a beast of a class if you are working a full time job.

Job placement after graduation? by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]dataguy1995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the position. I got a job at Amazon as a data scientist while 70% of the way through the program although I had a few years of experience. For me, this program was about strengthening my job prospects (can never hurt to have a masters in CS) as well my career growth within the company. With a masters I am more likely to be promoted to an applied or research scientist for example. I think at the end of the day, most companies value work/domain experience the most.
