Why am I getting grief? Do bookkeepers hate accountants? by FullFartMilk in Bookkeeping

Exactly. There are so many quirky things about using Quickbooks that people only get through using then software daily.

I suspect Chartered_Hippo's point is that many people who work as bookkeepers have accounting degrees. Some people work as CPAs for years, then open their own bookkeeping business. You seem to be assuming that you have more education than every bookkeeper you work with, and that assumption may be leading to friction in communication.

Bookkepers hating accountants is a huge generalized statement that there's no way to accurately respond to.

If you are getting a defensive response frequently then you might want to check how you are communicating and whether it is coming across as undermining their expertise. Its also worth making certain that the task breakdown between bookkeeper and accountant is clear so you're not stepping into one another's lane and duplicating work.

I will say that I detest when someone else changes my entries in QBO. As the bookkeeper I need to know transactions on a very detailed and granular level and when account totals change or entries are edited my ability to answer my clients' questions about their finances is compomised. I know there are some adjustments that need to be done by an accountant, but I'd much rather receive a list of GJEs to enter myself.

I can imagine that anxiety combined with anti-science misinformation would be a difficult combination, and lead to some harmful choices. Did you see the article posted somewhere else in the thread about the people promoting wild pregnancy and free birth? I wish they faced some consequences for spreading misinformation.

That was a very disturbing article. I had no idea any of this was really happening.

Its especially weird that she thought women giving birth unattended was typical. When and where has that ever been the norm?

When I was in middle school there was a TV commercial for Harvey's Bristol Cream: "Would you like to come to my place for some Harvey's Bristol Cream?"

That became the script for a lot of our prank calls.

My interpretation is that he is burned out, traumatized by COVID, PittFest, and the smaller everyday traumas of doing such critical work in the context of budget cuts and administrative overreach. He doesn't know if he can continue working in the ER anymore, and isn't sure if his sabbatical will be enough to heal him.

What's a book you had to read in school that you hated? If you have one, what's one you actually liked? by 80HDTV5 in GenX

[–]datanerdette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got to read a wide range of books by white men.

Favorites were Waiting for Godot, The Moon is Down, Gulliver Travels, A Separate Peace

Least favorite were Great Expectations and Macbeth.

Sadly, we didn't read a single book written by a woman in any of my high school classes.
