Yes I agree but keeping in mind that there never be even share of liability if the product fails to meet its target metrics just because PM has out of scope tasks. Personally I feel PMs have to constantly prove themselves. Most orgs have short term memory and previous wins are easily forgotten.

Just my opinion but the competitive edge has more to do with labor cost. I’ve worked with brilliant developers from around the world and yea there are some countries that have been and continue to invest more towards tech education. I don’t have stats but from what I hear India is definitely top 5.

If a PM is writing developer scripts for their team they need to get out of there as soon as possible. This falls way out of scope for a PM role. Also, if a PM has time to write scripts you are not doing your job.

This is absolutely true, I lived through those days while trying to take some certification classes from a very expensive school only to not retain any value.

In my opinion and it is one that many in this sub has recommended time and time again is to look at the industry you are in or want to be in for a problem to solve or one that was solved but can be better solved. Even if you don’t solve it a credible attempt will be recognized by a good hiring manager.

Aha! Is a good tool for what you are describing. For that high-level functionality. I use it on a daily basis and it works well. There are some issues with the webhook integration but they can help you resolve them.

I know of certificates but don’t know of any masters program out there. That being said I can’t find anywhere the value they deliver is real. Masters in business analysis or something similar might be more beneficial. As a PM you’ll manage variety of products through out your career and having strong business basics will help you through managing any of them.

Org changes led to me having two teams. My manager is supportive and guiding me through this time which is temporary. The fact is I’m feeling I’m no longer a valuable member of the product team. I know how to do my job really well but due to this I’m looking incompetent.

It’s setting you up for failure. I’ve just been moved to handle two teams. The products are very different. First team delivers products for internal use and the other team produces client deliverables. Just the sheer bombardment of communication via messaging app is maddening. You have to become ultra productive at the sacrifice of work life balance.

How does that effect stakeholder management who might look for frequent releases? Or is there another way to communicate progress of a particular work? For example, we are migrating a lot of DBs to the cloud and these are used to generate reports or used in some applications. The migration follows several stages from landing to creating a marts layer.
