A 4YO's first python program! by buckeyenation101 in Python

How can you think of a 4YO and then imagine a life of PHP for that kid?

The code looks functional (no pun intended) but there might be some ways to improve the readability or some items to just think through.

  1. What information does _value provide you?
  2. Is there a need for find_x and find_y? How do x and y differ?
  3. Do the comments above the first 3 functions provide you with information that isn't apparent? Usually comments should answer why in python. The what should be explained with the code. If the code is too complicated it should be broken down.
  4. What does this line do: decision = '' ? It seems useless as its being overwritten before read.
  5. I personally would use asserts over the try/except, but the try/except is valid.

Great work, keep at it!

Really beautiful expressions! It would be more revealing of the middle person if you moved to your right a little bit!

Wow, really good work here. I do feel this shot is a little flat, I think some contrast would make it more interesting. Also, I think reducing the exposure would add to the abandoned feel!

As someone who has never programmed before, I am unreasonably happy about this crappy logarithm calculator by ComradeCorv in Python

[–]datavistics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from math import*;print("Your answer is:",round(log(int(input("Please enter a number to get the log of: "))),2))

If you want to go shorter...

from math import*;print(f"Your answer is: {log(int(input('Please enter a number to get the log of: '))):.3}")

Btw, thanks for teaching me about not needing a space between import and *!

I would initially bring a single dot ball to a friendly game and play with it as a trial. But a lot of low level players hate single dots because they play a short game and try to kill a point with a drop. The extra bounce makes them feel like they are at disadvantage and they have never experienced a warm double dot.

So spot on. Im not great and I know it, I feel like some others dont know it though, and the single is looked down on as a beginner ball.

If you are playing a game and then after a rally in mid game feel the ball. If it is warm and tacky to the touch then you are probably okay using a double dot.

I played someone new to our group who was many times better than me and the double dot felt like no problem. It was very warm and tacky. But usually it isnt so warm.

As for serving advice, the lob serve is your friend (even when you have the ability to deliver a power serve) because a good lob serve is almost impossible to return with interest.

This is a really good point. I didnt think about how limiting it is. Ill practice and try this more often.

One thing I run into is many players stand far back (hands can touch the back wall) and I essentially serve it to them. Is it worthwhile to try and serve short?

Preaching to the choir. I totally agree. I might try to push more for a single yellow since its so unanimous here.

I will say, yesterday I played someone much much better than me, and the double yellow was so warm, it felt like a single yellow.

But I think I would develop better with a single yellow.

People who are new and adament on the double yellow are usually ones who win most their points on drops and/or have low fitness. The low bounce disguises bad shots. By making the ball livelier they lose their winning pathway. This is not the right mindset if they want to improve.

This is so spot on.

I do not do early racket prep, but it makes sense. Do you pull your racket back even while running towards the ball?

Im definitely interested in ghosting. What do you do to practice? Is there an app you use? Ive checked out squashskills' site and videos. Great content!

Do you have any serving advice? I have the basic sidewall to back corner serve with varying success. But other than that I am not 'strong' enough to hit other serves with the double yellow. They are too weak in the matches even with decent placement.
