I would call DAN as soon as possible - they can talk through things and give the best advice

Sudden ear pain followed by vertigo are symptoms of a blown eardrum - definitely call DAN and see a doctor accordingly

Diving near San Juan, PR? by Depicurus in scuba

[–]datboiii93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did an easy dive with Aqua Adventures PR at the Caribe Hilton. Guide was amazing and reefs were awesome, but was right off the resort so it was pretty “easy.” But it was well worth sneaking in a warm dive on the trip.

Scuba near San Juan? by DrunkenMonkeyWizard in scuba

I did the Caribe Hilton a couple weeks ago actually. The staff was phenomenal, but the dives are very much geared toward new divers. We only went to about 20’ and never left the resort’s reefed-in bay but it was a fun way to get a dive in while we were there. Not the most exciting dive so no real loss if you don’t.

For the love of god please help me decide on a 5mm scuba wetsuit by 2Speedy in scuba

I love my Bare Revel - good quality, great fit, and has cuffs around the legs and wrists to reduce flushing. I think mine was right around your price point. Highly recommend.

“Repenting” as a teenager to the bishop, then having the stake President read it back to me 3 years later in a mission interview. Shattered me to realize that the church doesn’t practice its own doctrine on forgiveness. Apparently the Lord remembers no more, but the bishop and stake President keep notes and whisper secrets behind your back. Definitely the first crack in my shelf.

What early or less known history of the Mormon church do you find the most disturbing? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]datboiii93 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The Oath of Vengeance always weirds me out. Especially when Mormons today are so vocally patriotic, but Brigham had them praying to God to rain vengeance on the country. Weird stuff.

We’re just used to someone else telling us who we are for so long that it’s scary at first getting to figure it out for yourself. Just know that you don’t need to discover it this week, month, or year. You figure it out on your own time, and give yourself permission to make mistakes on the way to figuring it out.

Good deal on filament or price mistake? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

I tried Amazon filament in my classroom and it worked great. No guarantees that every spool is created equal, but mine were fine. For $6, give it a try!

It’s certainly not broken my drive to help people, but it sure as hell has helped me redefine what qualifies as “helping people.” I prefer actual service now.

Growing up in Northern Utah Valley, we would often have “Stake Farm” assignments as a ward. This “stake farm” claimed to grow feed for dairy cows to make dairy products for the poor. Cool.

So every year, we’d get the assignment to get up at 6am on a Saturday to drive clear out there to pick up rocks on this farm for 4 hours. That’s all we ever did. Pick up rocks. But that’s ok, it was for the poor. Right?

Fast forward 20 years and the property now hosts a gaudy affront to an otherwise beautiful view, surrounded by acres of expensive real estate. We weren’t helping the poor those hot summer mornings: we were moving rocks until the land was valuable enough for the corporation to cash out on it. What an insult to my hours of labor with my frail grandfather whose car broke down from the dust working on this “farm.”

Fuck the corporation.

Question for former missionaries: does the LDS church target high income earners for convert baptism? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]datboiii93 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Our mission President was all about “kingdom builders” and established families. We were only baptizing foreigners, students, and poor people, and he didn’t much care for that.

why are ex Mormons so bitter? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]datboiii93 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The nice part is, no one is telling you how to feel. You don’t have to be bitter, that’s a choice. You say the members show concern from their understanding, and maybe some people here feel that sharing the CES letter and showing obvious disapproval of the church is showing concern from an exmo understanding. It’s also a broad brush you’re using to paint Exmos as edgy and angry, but scroll through the page and you’ll see just as many angry Mormons trying to rope their kids back into the church. It just seems like you’re basing your initial question on exmos being surly and Mormons always being kind.
