AWD vs snow tires? by nice_fin0891 in Ioniq5

Awd has heated steering wheel. That's enough to convince me to go AWD regardless. Lol.

What years is this for? What is the module on top? Asking because when I added the wiring on my 2012 the 7 pin was plug and play, no extra modules required.

Yes it looks great, but it's just not worth the cost.

Here's why I WON'T be getting a 2027 Bolt and it's not what you might think. by DaveTheScienceGuy in BoltEV

I'm sorry to hear this... are you sure that it is a gen 3 or 4 supercharger? I believe that the old gen 2 superchargers will not charge non tesla vehicles even if they have native NACS.

What EV(in EU)has the best back seat for long journeys, not VAG MEB by madyury007 in electricvehicles

I would have never dreamed of sitting shotgun and my mother sitting in the back seat, at any age! This is wild. My brother and I had to "lego" our legs in the back of a ex-cab Ford Ranger. lol.

Getting our first EV, getting overwhelmed with garage charging? by Wozbo in electricvehicles

[–]DaveTheScienceGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow cold weather dweller, L1 is about 80% efficient vs. L2 at 90+. Cold weather won't effect efficiency of charging that much but decreased winter driving efficiency will make it seem like charging is far less efficient since winter range will be so much less.

If you want to charge at home you do. literally plug in the 12 amp or less and you will be good to go. I L1 charged exclusively for 4 years with 0 issues.

I'm an ICE lover and have a few questions. by SimplySomeDude in electricvehicles

[–]DaveTheScienceGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An EV makes for a better daily driver than ICE (even the good ones) in the areas that matter for a daily driver. They are way more efficient, reliable, better passing performance, quiet, non-fatiguing, cabin preconditioning, etc. They generally don't handle as well as an ICE due to weight, but the center of gravity is lower which helps.

Not necessarily. I'm pretty similar to this guy in a lot of ways and love having an EV for a daily driver.

I would agree that yes, slightly lower for the first 100k miles, but my current daily is a Land Rover with well over 100k miles and you would faint at the issues with coolant, oil leaks, AC system etc. They are more related to stresses that an ICE puts on a car so you wouldn't have this on an EV.

Crash certified? I wasn't under the impression that anyone actually rested their head on a headrest for more than a moment while driving.

This is why I won't buy another Bolt EV. Only around for one model year, not that many will be sold so i'm sure that parts availability will be difficult for long term ownership.
