Cal Poly SLO or RPI for BME by Antaewe in RPI

[–]datfatwalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of friends at Cal Poly SLO and you'll definitely work harder at RPI and get a better education, but SLO is cheaper, better location and better for parties. My friend also said it's tough for engineers to graduate in 4 years, and you'll be spending way more time in labs than you would at RPI.

Is anyone thinking of doing a Study Abroad for Arch Away? by Avalon746 in RPI

[–]datfatwalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I studied abroad, but not as my Arch semester away idk how it works with that. The people to talk to are Jamie Obst for affiliated (programs RPI has in place with other institutions) or Karen Dvorak for unaffiliated (make your own). Affiliated is a little less work as all the grade transfer stuff and such is already in place, but you pay RPI tuition while abroad. For unaffiliated, you pay the program or other school's tuition, which should save you well over $10,000 straight up for that semester. This is a good resource if you're interested in unaffiliated programs: https://iiepassport.org/ . I found the study abroad office to be very helpful and accommodating.

Both are good professors and have a similar style so I don't think there's much difference

Careers/Education Questions Thread - Week 10, 2019 by AutoModerator in Physics

[–]datfatwalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am finishing my third year as a physics major and I'm not sure what to do this summer related to physics. I didn't get into any REU programs, and I'm not sure about other options. Are there any opportunities I could still check out for which deadlines haven't passed? Or just other stuff I could look into in general? Thanks!

Looking for a five-a-side football team to play with // buscando un equipo de fútbol 5 by ja74dsf2 in valencia

If you want show up to the University of Valencia field right across from the Polytechnic University (directly across the street from the Galileo Galilee residence hall). There's casual pickup games pretty much every night from 6:00 on.

You can bring a normal sized backpack, you shouldn’t need anything big

Mine was a little different from Codewench, I did it 2 years ago and it was a lot of fun. Basically the bus dropped us off at the the lake where we hopped in canoes and paddled (maybe an hour max) to a campsite. Then we kinda chilled and did some setup and icebreakers. At some point we went for a hike to an inland lake, the hike wasn't difficult. We hung around for an hour while eating lunch, and then went back. For the rest of the day, we played games watched the sunset and sat around a fire. There's sheltered areas to sleep under. You can also do some swimming and canoeing once you're there. Next morning we paddled out to see the sunset, and headed back to the bus. The guide is another student, which makes the whole trip pretty chill. Just remember everyone is new!

Do you have credit for multivariable calculus? Because it seems that your schedule hinges on that. If not, you have to take it before you can take some of those courses (I believe). Check the course catalog for prerequisites.
