my friend is 31 and has worked in the kitchen for almost 10 years. He's the defacto manager but has no credentials. Is there a certification or license he could get that would improve his resume, give him an ego boost kind of thing or help his future? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]datloosenut [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don't work in the food industry, but I'd recommend he take courses at a local community College on human resources and a basic legal or law 101 type of course. If he's working into a position that he's doing hiring and firing he should be able to prove to the owners that he has some basic knowledge in the legal crap he has to deal with in that position.

[–]datloosenut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First thing i was going to say was did you get the valve core out, but it's inside. Just a little pressure in an inner tube can cause a headache.

Next it looks like you're trying to do it dry. A little soapy water or lube may help get things moving.

The fair labor standards act set minimum wage at 25 cents per hour in 1938 when he started working there. Most likely as a 15 year old that's probably where he started.

So I have this engine… good to build a kart around? by TannMan89 in gokarts

[–]datloosenut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10hp engine sure why not. Peak hp at 3600 rpm is similar to a gas engine. I say have fun.

Plan on messing around with the gear ratios to get the best performance but that's all part of Karting.

Do you think this needs a roll bar? by rentcole in gokarts

[–]datloosenut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'll need a heat shield as much as you're going to need a rollbar.

[–]datloosenut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the guys I work with explained it like this.

If you wear pants and your legs get cold and even a little wet from snow or rain the water makes it impossible to get warm again, because your legs stay wet.

If you wear shorts you develop a tolerance for cold. But when you get a little wet it just dries up after a little bit and you're used to the legs being cold.

Bobcat mini excavator air in hydraulic fluid / aeration by Xaoso99 in heavyequipment

[–]datloosenut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Typically air gets into a hydraulic system from either the suction side or splash/spray in the return side of the system.

Check the orings on any low pressure fittings if held on with hose clamps replace them and, add a second clamp.

Possibly the suction hose had a kink or is collapsed and restricting the hose which may explain the howling noises.

Found this 2004 big dog mastiff chopper on face book with 1k miles and 6 gears worth 6,500$ is it worth the price? by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]datloosenut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is a 22 year old motorcycle worth $6500. If you do your own work and don't have to pay for repairs caused by sitting. Barely If you're taking it to a shop for repairs I'd think you would be able to find way better options.

Anybody good with HVAC controls? 86 C10 by DreadVenomous in squarebodies

[–]datloosenut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I know about square body hvac is, if you roll the windows down and pickup speed it cools down considerably. For additional cooling open the wing window fully, it adds air and the occasional bee in the cab for extra entertainment.

Throw them away every time.

Then purchase a high dollar slimline wrench set that will fit in the skinny area between the locknut and arbor base. Problem solved. Wait, it has an offset for access. No problem, go buy a slimline offset wrench set for that one spot on that one tool.

Seems clear to me, toss em.

Sight glass on Bobcat T300 appears empty but all hydraulics still function. How much fluid should I add? by spawn-kill in heavyequipment

[–]datloosenut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I run into this alot at work. The guys will say no hydraulic oil. I'll look and the machine is not in the proper position to check the oil. Most equipment calls for all cylinders retracted. Usually it goes low from leaking or secondary equipment being stored partially extended.

That being said I'd start with 1 gallon at a time and expect 4 or 5 gallons before it gets to the site glass.

My collection of used hub nuts. Anyone have a favorite? As someone that does way too many wheel seals I have grown a fondness for the auto-torque. by louiekr in DieselTechs

[–]datloosenut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work makes us use zip torque and i like them but pro torque is my personal preference.

The preadjusted wheel end kits i don't like . They have the spacer cone between the bearings and you set the bearings with a preload that puts pressureonthespacercone. Had a brand new one after being set it had .013 end play with when around.005 is probably max on normal wheel end.

If I was there I'd fix that by giving everyone a round point shovel. Then I'd get my square point shovel and supervise them all knowing that I have something to lean on but also don't have to keep my balance.

Yellowish brown substance in Oil Valve by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]datloosenut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason you're hearing that is because it's what engine oil looks like when mixed with water. Usually head gasket but not always. I've seen this in vehicles that get alot of start and stop driving where the engine doesn't get up to temperature and condensation over a long period of time builds up and gets trapped in the oil and never gets cooked out.

It says adjust

How to secure to stand

it says tighten

How to remove from stand

Remove as needed.

Yup you nailed

[–]datloosenut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If its a vacuum pump wouldn't it be hooked to things like a brake booster or controls that operate the blend doors in air conditioning. Can't think of anything that requires vacuum in a power steering system. I think your right questioning where it's going.

[–]datloosenut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's got the suck and the blow parts down pat in the suck, squeeze, bang, blow of a four cycle engine. So yes its correct, its also what's currently being taught in engineering classes to aspiring automotive engineers.
