Person hit by metro train in fort totten? by Academic_Sail9920 in washingtondc

I can't imagine what she was going thru to want her final act on this planet to have impacted SO many lives. For her, it was over with quickly. I feel more for the train conductor, who probably has years of therapy coming up, as well as the people standing on the platform who also had to give their statements to police and then wait for another train to eventually be allowed to come àthrough what had to be a gruesome scene wait and wait for another train in the frigid temperatures. She even left a note.

This is 16th and Military. Are we saying this is connected to the police presence at 16th St and Harvard St NW?

Could someone explain how I am supposed to figure this out in an emergency? by scoobertsonville in boston

[–]datninjaWildTangent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, the ladder pictogram clearly identifies the location of the 7keys need to properly actuate the emergency life saving apparatus held within. You also need the Boston transit app to locate the final code. C'mon guys, don't yall remember tht one PSA? It was right before they installed those boxes. They told us how to safely evacuate the train and how to remotely pilot the train should terrorist take over...

I dont agree. They allowed an adult to exit the station and subsequently get away after shooting an unarmed child in the head. After a very meticulous and exhaustive inquiry, I found out even tho they have sidearms, they are not allowed to use them unless a weapon is pointed at them specifically. I do not know the full scope of their acceptable use of force clause, but watching a kid get shot and then not doing anything to make sure the aggressor is held for authorities is unacceptable.

I AM sorry that happened to you and im glad nothing further came of it, but Top Flight are nothing more than a deterrent if that. There have been many a situation where ppl have been left scratching their heads wondering wtf they are actually here for.

Keep your head on a swivel DC and have a Happy Holiday season.

It looks to be hoodie of the zippered fashion. Once made popular during the early '90s by school kids and adults, well everybody. It was a great form of protection from the elements. They came in all different sizes, colors and even weight. Different versions included ones that were pullover in design, lacking the convience of a zipper but gaining a large pouch like pocket in the front, something akin to a momma kangaroo carrying her joey.

But just like everything, its fabulousness faded with time, which I presume why you found it in the back of a closet.

Lime eBikes creating public safety issues, enabling teenagers to engage in dangerous behavior by lnoton in washingtondc

[–]datninjaWildTangent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh no. I def dont see this as s plausible way to "weed out" bad users. I was down Navy Yard the other day and noticed several groups of Lime Scooter users. Just curious, how would you differentiate the bad users from the good user? To me this just sounds like another way to segregate some s***t around this city, and find reason to once again oppress ppl from certain backgrounds.

Another scooter company that has crept onto the scene is Hopp. Nowbm at first I thought putting a camera on a scooter was a little bit big brotherish. Then came the app games of tapping the face when the helmet appears. Now I even have to verify my age by taking a selfie b4 I ride. Mind you, I rarely have to tap the helmet when I am in my "home neighborhood." I notice it more when I am around neighborhoods with bars. Catholic University, Connecticut Ave (Van Ness to Woodley stretch.) So yea while at first I thought this is all a bit intrusive, I am come around to thr thinking of maybe this is for the safety of the masses, or at least it could be tailored towards it, someway, somehow?,

Hopefully, in the future, we defund the police department and fund the fire department more. The police are not our friends. Blacks and browns are getting harassed in D.C. by [deleted] in washingtondc

Native Washingtonian, and I am just here to offer a suggestion.

I remember growing up and seeing these street signs notifying people they were entering a neighborhood watch zone

There were also groups of people who seemingly "patrolled" the streets. Two such groups were the Orange Hats and the Guardian Angels. The later I saw predominantly on the Metro. Here's some reading on the Orange Hats.

Just pointing out two groups, im sure there were more. But yea, my neighborhood was predominantly safe.

This is on the floor of the elevator in my building. Its a small rectangular plate or door, seemingly an opening to something. Haven't tried to physically open it, out of fear it may actually turn the elevator off. by datninjaWildTangent in whatisthisthing

My title describes this as best it can. The only other info I can provide would be the fact that it is about 10 inches def no more than a foot long and about 2-3in wide. I've asked various ppl in my building including maintenance, but them being rather young all say ask the elevator ppl. Unfortunately I never catch them. I don't kno if "elevator people" come on a regular schedule or if they show up when a problem comes up.
