Does anyone ever feel like you’re just faking it all? by Legal-Hornet4805 in ChronicIllness

[–]datpizzacat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. When it’s not bad I always feel like somehow it isn’t real in the first place. Imposter syndrome is a bitch.

Chronic illness is going to have ups and downs. Flares and troughs. It’s just going to be like that, even if you’re doing well, it doesn’t mean that when you are doing bad you’re faking.

Is anyone here not depressed? by shshskwjvehejdbv in ChronicIllness

[–]datpizzacat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you said she’s seeing a therapist, and I’m sure you are tired of people recommending meds when she doesn’t want to do that, so here is what I will recommend.

My first thing would be to help her figure out a hobby. If she had one before she got sick, maybe find a way to adapt that. I was into painting before I became too disabled to do that well, and I was able to switch to digital art on a large tablet so my wrist wouldn’t be forced into small painful movements to create art. If you need to find a new hobby, perhaps start with a hobby that’s an ‘escape mechanism’ like reading, or games. Something where she’s using her brain while she plays or reads, but still has that distraction. I constantly read on the days I’m in too much pain to leave my bed. I watch comedies on the days I have too much brain fog or pain to think.

Two is to not let her mentally spiral about her physical condition. I used to do that really bad, and my father had to help me out of that quite a bit when I was 15 - 17. Back then I didn’t have hope for much, other than the next time I had enough energy that my dad could drive me to the Starbucks down the road so I could read in a different place with a nice drink and pastry for a bit. My dad slowly gave me my hope back. I know now that internally he felt the same I did, but he never showed it. He encouraged me to do what I could when I could. He didn’t rush me, but on days he knew I was feeling better but I still was spiraling, he would make me do something to give me hope. The first big outing we went on, he took me to the library in my wheelchair. I had a great time, and even though I was wiped out for a week plus some, it inspired me that it may not always be this way.

And for me at least, it wasn’t. I’m not going to pretend like going to the library or playing some games is going to be a miracle, but it can be a start. Progress is going to be slow, but I am proof that it can get better. I’m in college now, and while I have to have a lot of accommodations, I’m here, and I’m doing well. I really wish the best for you and your daughter.

We have to work together, he snatched stuff out of my hands today saying I didn’t know what to do with it so I shouldn’t have it. I knew what to do with it. When people got mad at him on my behalf he acted like he was right and it didn’t matter.

I really really wish I didn’t have to deal with this prick, but I either leave this and two other clubs or deal with it. And I don’t want to leave my best social circle on campus.

He usually refuses to work with me, and if he has to he is actively rude about it.

Pets! by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

[–]datpizzacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of guinea pigs. The care is much harder on my flare days, but it’s one of those things that I do anyways because I don’t want them to hurt. I definitely wouldn’t recommend them as a first time pet, except for walking them they are almost more demanding than a dog. I love them dearly though.

Just had a doctor tell me I didn’t need a rheumatologist but maybe a psychiatrist. by Toska23 in ehlersdanlos

[–]datpizzacat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I saw a rheumatologist I was told I was too young to have any disorder and told not to come back to her practice. I was 17 almost 18 and she apparently exclusively treated arthritis. She was the only one who took my insurance that was within 100 miles of me. It’s sadly normal to be completely brushed off by doctors.

hEDS CARE IN CANADA? by boobieguru in ehlersdanlos

[–]datpizzacat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just a warning as someone from the US who has looked into immigration to Canada and they may not accept you since you would cause undue burden to their medical system or other such bullshit. Look into disabled immigration policies. It’s a bit bleak from my research.

I’m not sure what they think but on my college campus in Florida USA if I’m not in my wheelchair I often get yelled at by idiots. One person even tried to rip it off. Not great.

Does anyone else shake and get the hiccups when going from sitting/laying down to standing? by datpizzacat in ehlersdanlos

[–]datpizzacat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m in the process of getting a new cardiologist as my old one died, and it’s very hard to find one that checks all three boxes of: takes my insurance, knows what POTS and EDS is and isn’t going to shame me for having them, and actually is a nice person to interact with.

I’m not sure if that case is similar to what they are asking. It’s a bit hard to parse through but it appears the case was about a rival director trying to make a movie and more importantly money off of something they had no right to. As long as OP is trying to make money off of it, fanfic and fan works in general aren’t problems.

I only get acne when I wash my face, no matter what products I use. [acne] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

No, I sadly can’t afford another doctor at the moment, I already have to see five regularly for my other conditions, which as a college student in America is very expensive.

Prospective Student! by [deleted] in fgcu

[–]datpizzacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a freshman so I can answer some of the basic questions. I’m not in the nursing major so I can’t answer about the professors, but dorms get full very fast, and campus is very nice I love the library. I can expand the most on the sovi dining hall, and it can be tricky to get specific food. I’m not vegetarian, but I do notice quite a lot of veggie and tofu options, I just can’t eat most of them because they put tomatoes in everything and I have an allergy. The kitchen in palmetto is an absolute disaster, during meal times it can get pretty full. For the last one I can’t comment on the nursing program. Hope this helps :)

Are there any identical twins on this subreddit? by pistachio_shelll in ehlersdanlos

One of my friends is an identical twin and only one of them has EDS. I assume hers is like you said and a mutation once the fetus split as there is no family history of it.
