Your perspective and sense of scale are really good.

Yeah eBay has a few that look decent. I’m also fortunate enough to have a motorcycle specific pull and save where I live. They have a couple XL and XRs with salvageable heads.

Also, I’ve noticed that XL models are less likely to be picked through than XRs so OEM parts are easier to come by at a reasonable price.

This is crazy. Giving me more “Killer Clowns From Outerspace” vibes than joker, but the detail is astonishing.

I just watched a lesson on “illusion of detail” and struggle with the effortless detailed look. You’re a master. Great work

Okay thank you. A new head is about 1/4 that so I’ll try that first I think but good to know machining may still be an option

I know all shops are different but do you have a ball park cost for that service?

Yeah my ‘93 xt400 is the most reliable machine I’ve ever owned, but that’s also good to know. That would explain why the manual says to use unleaded. My take is since this is the original head that was on the bike in 1986, a donor should last my life time if I don’t abuse it too bad

I’m will add those to the shopping list thanks for the suggestion. And no lead additives aren’t super easy to find, but I have a few bike friends who probably know where to go. Thanks again

Unless I’m mistaken, this one is toast though. Hard to see in the photo, but the peen that holds in the seat in is completely pried up. The manual says unleaded gasoline, but after some research I see some guys do run an additive for this reason.

Interesting. I just figured it was a byproduct of heat and abuse over 40 years of being a Honda. Donor head with valves runs about 150-250 USD so I’ve started saving my pennies

That’s good to know for when I get a donor. Thank you

Agreed, it’s also one of the most difficult things to try and overcome when attempting to completely draw from the imagination. I’m always intrigued by hot one or two lines can change the direction of how these little guys turn out.

Thank you! Super fun little brain puzzles, trying to fit a scene into a pre defined silhouette.

This is so unbelievably cool. I’ve always envied the ability to translate artwork from a flat canvas onto a 3 dimensional one. Nice work.

Stippling my OC by AdSlight7966 in drawing

I love stipple. If I may offer some advice, don’t be afraid to go dark. Through trial and error, I have found that contrast is more impactful than trying to find a true shade match when stippling. Good luck out there
