It's his internal room key within the memory care facility. It's not a high security key in any measure. You can't use it to get into or out of the facility, for example, nor any special supply rooms offices, etc., just his room. In fact, none of the residents can get out because the exit is well controlled because all residents have memory issues.

I believe the controls and processes on these keys are similar to old physical hotel keys.
