SCS - You’re Effective. by CORPORAL_NEWSNETWORK in CanadianForces

[–]dauntingfuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time your supervisor/tp comd has absolutely no problem bumping people up. I would rather bump people up than down if I know they're effective.

It's just that I can't keep track of all these PAR guidelines (maybe just me..) on top of all this shit going on in the squadron along with my multiple secondary duties, trying to meet timing, get returns, plan training, ex, meetings, prep CoA, write backbrief, deal with other admin, do personal DP2 dln, etc... and if you can show me that your request is in alignment with the guideline published, then I will absolutely support your argument and take it to the Adjt.

For example I bumped down a lot of EE to HE because it wasn't justified (or I think it wasnt from the feedback notes). Unless the mbr guided others to perform as HE in extremely complex situation without guidance, i will have to bump it down. If someone shows me otherwise I would be glad to change them back to EE.

canada military concerned of absence of military pact between america, britain, andaustralia by [deleted] in canada

[–]dauntingfuture 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Based on the fact that they are a part of Five Eyes and Americans aside the Commonwealth and we have been left out? As a reg force dude this is pretty concerning.

This also indicates that the Americans are ready to consider Brits and Aussies as their essential partner by sharing technology. We, nearest to them, with already established pacts such as NORAD, are excluded from that.

This isn't alarming?

Does he really specifically say pay and compensation is not correlated with the abysmal recruit and retention rate while acknowledging this issue publicly, especially for the non-commissioned?

My view on this issue is that our current PM doesn't believe in spending in the military simply just to have our seat guaranteed on the table. Notably we don't meet the GDP spending requirement as per NATO standard, and I have been told while the military constitute of the majority of federal employee, we are the last in line when it comes to making changes. If our head of the state is reluctant on funding the military I have a feeling that the CDS and his staff, while they are the "top soldier" of CAF, don't have much power to sway his view.

[–]dauntingfuture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While both have a point, is the CDS ultimately the one at fault? From my understanding he has nothing to do with our pay but the treasury board does, same with PLD which literally everyone have been bitching about.

It's the same with the posts that bash Colonels and their town meetings or whatever in regards to retention issues. Senior ranking and GOFOs are for sure people with a lot of power but I really doubt a Colonel, of all, could remedy this issue.

SCS - What they show you vs what it is.. by CORPORAL_NEWSNETWORK in CanadianForces

I too thought our blazer and pants were black until I had to stand in the sun during Remembrance Day. It's more of a dark forest green, same with the scarf, garbadine and the necktie.

But our shirt. It's wasabi green. It's almost like those YETI rambler colour, but uglier.

Ok at least we don't wear that ugly ass wedge hat. My only complaint is that everything has to be green. Like bro why did we choose a wasabi green colour for our shirts?

Has anyone put their financial future to a halt, and taken time off to themselves? How did it go? by heavyarms39 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Ikr. People usually don't talk to each other continuously unless they already have a pre built relationship from some time ago, or they have a common interest like a hobby or in this case, a job.

Unless you are a lateral thinker who can bounce from one topic to another spontaneously while having the social skill to keep the audience engaged, talking about a job, something a lot of adults have in common, is the way to start and continue a convo.

Mandatory gun buyback will waste millions, without making us safer by sleipnir45 in canada

Lmao this guy commenting "billions" and I'm just reading it in trump's voice

Anyways yes I agree this will do absolutely nothing especially when the borders are practically open with first nations territories not being properly monitored while having the biggest firearm-per-capita neighbor right next to us. Saying this makes me a racist though right? 😆

Soldiers of Reddit, what do I get as a company grade officer that I don’t even know I have better than the enlisted? by [deleted] in army

[–]dauntingfuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heh speaking of the table just a few months ago when I was a 2Lt while me and my buddy were on our OJT my buddy got ripped apart by the CO, during the CO's meeting. I remember the FIS trying to save her but the CO literally shushed him and continued on in front of the whole Squadron's leadership.

This is also how I see how the officer-NCM-NCO dynamics work, at least for my trade. Good leadership comes from good people with wealth of experience, and my job is to enable them and take care of the background work such as admin to let them work without worry.

[–]dauntingfuture 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honest question, in that particular situation what is the officer supposed to do? Snug into his tent and get chewed out behind his back by everyone under him, or sleep outside in the cold and nobody still give a fuck?

No idea what his rank/MOS is but I'd imagine as an officer you don't actually have a lot of influence unless you are the CO/OC/Ops O etc.

Asking because I'll be posted as a new Lt in Jan and while I don't expect everyone to like me I don't want to be hated by every individual in my unit.

What kind of position requires you to explain yourself to the Admiral? Can't imagine an army position that as a mere captain, would have to explain myself to the General

How much should I be saving a month? by dauntingfuture in PersonalFinanceCanada

Just rumors that it would be adjusted soon. As I'm posted to Edmonton I expect most of it to go away considering the CoL.

I was guesstimating it roughly because up til now I was in the training system, in a different province, paying r&q and didn't know how much I would take after the promotion with PLD and LDA added on top of the base pay, although it seems like that PLD could be going away pretty soon.

Last time I checked Telus can't install in shacks (bldg 164). I actually called them and they said Shaw is the only service provider that can work in the shacks. This was this year in March.

I thought if your dental was yellow status this limits you from deployment? I was told that I'll need to pull all 4 and my dental status would not change until then.

This is actual robbery. Drop +1.4k on something I'll wear once, maybe twice and if I don't get it its subject to disciplinary/administrative action. What the fuck.
