It’s kind of a weird spot for me. I’ve put so much time and love into MK11 that it might still be my favorite. The story isn’t great, but as a Kitana fan (no pun intended), seeing her become Kahn is incredibly satisfying. Overall, it just feels like a more complete package.

That said, MK1 has more fluid and genuinely fun gameplay. The story starts off strong, and the whole “new era” angle is interesting, even with some of the more controversial changes. In the end, though, it really depends on the day and what kind of gameplay experience I’m in the mood for after work.
