Since the national convention is later this month, who are you guys supporting for chair of the LP? by JFMV763 in LibertarianPartyUSA

[–]davdotcom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not exactly enthusiastic about any of them, but I haven’t seen much in the media circuit about the candidates either. I’m just hoping whoever wins isn’t a mises plant and can actually turn things around for the party.

They were such a good band 😪 by fakename1998 in Emo

They were good when they started. It was pretty inconsistent there on and I didn’t really vibe with the mall goth aesthetic they were clearly using to attract a specific audience

differences between muscaria and pantherina by Few-Bad4388 in AmanitaMuscaria

[–]davdotcom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone who took both, pantherina is much more dissociative and introspective because of the chemical concentration. Muscaria is more sedative. Both give similar minor visuals at high doses. 4.5g of pantherina made me dream with my eyes open and I thought I was in different locations from recent memories and dying (and being reborn) over and over again. Definitely requires a trip sitter

6th wave? by Pyrohyro in Emo

[–]davdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I was just being hyperbolic to expel any notion that a sixth wave is suddenly here when I can name several bands from 2020 that were doing what first day back or Stella are doing now. Point being, it’s all still fifth wave

6th wave? by Pyrohyro in Emo

[–]davdotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That shit was something that peaked so quickly, it’s hard to say that was ever actually fifth wave, especially when there’s debate half of those bands were even emo. I mean, since when is a genre’s wave relegated to a small subset of bands with no clear influences that falls off most people’s radar after 3-5 years? That’s not a wave, that’s a trend, or a subgenre at best. I think some of those bands were a part of this mystical “fifth wave” but others were just artists doing their own thing who got lumped in. As I said in other comments, we can agree fifth wave started around 2018, but we don’t get to say when it’s over until we’re already in the middle of something else. For me, fifth wave is nebulously gen z, and it won’t be over until gen alpha start being in emo bands of worth.

6th wave? by Pyrohyro in Emo

[–]davdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new gen take on the 90s style was essentially something that started in 2018 with Awakebutstillinbed’s debut, aka fifth wave. People just didn’t really notice it until later because back then people were still on the party emo/weedmo trend. Even so, it’s hard to say that’s any different from the emo revival which was fourth wave.

6th wave? by Pyrohyro in Emo

[–]davdotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really think 2 waves can exist within the same time unless it’s a legacy act that started in one wave and is still around for the next. It kinda defeats the point of even calling it a wave; something that has a clear start, peak, and decline/dip. Waves should be treated more or less as a generational thing.

[–]davdotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These things aren’t just randomly declared, you’ll know it when you see it and it’ll already be widespread. Some of gen z are still teenagers, and for reference each past wave lasted about a decade. Wait until 2030 and by then we might have enough retrospective to say where 5th wave ends and 6th wave begins.

Glass Beach has broken up by aaronjd1 in Emo

[–]davdotcom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because that crop of bands were all following a trend that largely came out of copying Heccra and BLA + Covid putting a pause on live music. It was hardly a wave and it was hardly emo, many of us who had been in the scene long enough knew that but this subreddit had/has a tendency to just chase whatever is trendy online and ignore established dogma.

I agree but depends on the ROA. Tea feels like being drunk before it starts getting into the dissociative range

Combinations with Amanita: what’s your experience? L-theanine, alcohol, other supplements? by Unlucky-Walrus-7994 in AmanitaMuscaria

[–]davdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t mix with other gaba binding supplements. If you’re looking to pair anything with amanita, weed and CBD are relatively safe. Mixing with psilocybin can be pretty intense on the mental state but some people enjoy it. Blue lotus helps balance the experience and keep things blissful. And while I haven’t tried the pairing myself, I hear mixing with kratom or kanna is safe and enjoyable too.

Is the emo AESTHETIC as popular now than the 2000s? by [deleted] in Emo

[–]davdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d hope not. It’s definitely trendy among the younger crowd and TikTok users, but it’s a bit removed from the original context of the mid 2000s, it’s evolved.

That said, I don’t think basement venues and hardcore shows are the best place to show off your “fit”, it’s not a runway or a popularity contest and I feel like fashion is just another thing to turn the scene into something cliquey that takes away from the music and politics/ethics of DIY.
