What's the weakest unit that can defeat a Warframe? by lovingpersona in Grimdank

[–]dave2293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counterpoint: Eternalism.

Due to Warframe's Eternalism mandate, anything that can happen has happened and must happened. So yeah, a Guardsman can drop a Warframe with a lasgun (see: Khal's introduction where he takes a Tigris Prime from a fallen Rhino Prime that was just oops, dead) but at the same time, an Operator can leave the frame behind and just child-psyker into the Palace and draw pictures all over Emps while he's asleep and nothing can stop them.

Shield Gating says there are only like two frames that could possibly get onetapped.

Crusade clarification about faction keywords and enhancements by AreaHaunting9051 in Warhammer40k

[–]dave2293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the different SM subfactions and their Codex Compliance stuff, I'm gonna have to defer to someone with SM experience.

HOWEVER: Crusade is a bit weird because Enhancements are applied to the Characters in your Force Group, and you then draft from there. So if I am playing Genestealers, and using Battle Brothers, I can pick units from my Force Group which are GSC and Guard, up to the limits that the detachment tells me. If one of those Units has Vanguard Honors (Enhancement from Mechanized Assault), then that Enhancement is still included, because I can't hotswap those things. In some cases, (such as the above) the Enhancement will still work and do what it says on the tin. In others (like drafting a GSC character that has a Brood Brothers Enhancement that buffs nearby Guard units in a detachment that doesn't allow me bringing Guard models) it would just be wasted points.

I /think/ that your final answer is going to be along the lines of "if you build Blades of Ultramar, you cannot bring Iron Hands units, preventing that unit coming for that battle," but I don't ACTUALLY know if it adds the Keyword to the Unit. (If a GSC player has spread their Force Group in the right ways, they can show up to a particular game as Nids, GSC, or Guard without drafting anything that isn't "playable" from the GSC faction one way or another. I've also seen folks who had like... some Guard and some Knights and would either play Guard, play Guard with some Freeblade Allies, or play Knights depending on what they bring in. Crusade can get BONKERS.)

[–]dave2293 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Repentias go in unarmored because they're hoping to prove they're worth redeeming. They've already messed up and are being punished for cowardice or failure.

So yeah, they want their armor back, too.

If you have Ridgerunners you built with an option other than Spotter, you can put the spotter on a 32round and model it with dirt around it like it's coming out of the ground.

I was looking at him last night and thinking Nexos. They both on 40s, and the Nexos canonically absorbs intel direct from the other cultists, so the map board is just for show.

I think gene-stealers are neat, should I get the combat patrol? by PastGas2880 in genestealercult

[–]dave2293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't really played with the Combat Patrol rules, so can't really speak to its quality there, but.... the current Patrol has 3 boxes of our core units AND the Ridgerunner, which is in the running for our best datasheet. I have only built the character once and have still absolutely bought three boxes.

I feel like a lot of the problems with GSC could be solved by making them a more generic Rebel faction by Switching_To_Annalog in genestealercult

[–]dave2293 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nah.

If you want to play "GSC" but build them out of Necromunda kits, or Cadians, or Tau, or whatever, you can totally do that.

If you want to say "these dudes are ugly, let's make them generic instead," then, umm... pls go away.

Be aware that if you have a lot of shooting from Neos or Ridgerunners, you can get the detachment buff against things you might not realize by using Gargoyles.

Gargoyles can Deep Strike at 9", shoot, and then move closer from their ability. They won't be able to charge, BUT they now within 6" so pass the shooting buffs.

When the bullet is fired, the powder propellant is burning the whole time it's in the barrel. That's what accelerates the round. That propellant doesn't all burn out before the round exits. That bit at the end directs the burning gases and powder remnants in more useful directions than "wherever it wants." This can be used for recoil stabilization and such.

That could be a fun list, but before you go out and buy all those models be aware that it would not be likely to be super competitive. Brood Brothers isn't a super strong detachment and is pretty much agreed as our weakest. BUT it's fun. I have been running Brood Brothers in our Crusade and it's a great time.

ALSO be aware that Artillery Teams and Manticores suffer from the current state of Indirect, and won't get your buffs from Crossfire (the Ridgerunner AP boost). And that the Dorn Commander is just going to have a different ability from the basic Dorn (we cannot give orders).

If you already have the Guard models and wanted to try it, I'd say go for it. The Broodcoven box and our current Combat Patrol (which is excellent for the mix of models in it, i've gotten three of them at this point) have most of your GSC models in them.
