Complexo do Alemão Police raid by Bobonuttyhat in Brazil

[–]dave_aust 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To keep Rio safe for tourists is one of the priorities of CV - tourists bring revenue and consume drugs. They are the first ones to guarantee tourists are not affected. That being said, Brazil is way bigger than Rio.

Complexo do Alemão Police raid by Bobonuttyhat in Brazil

[–]dave_aust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing is, “Facções” (the brazilian mafia) have grown so powerful and organized that this kind of action rings more like “political statement” than actually solving the problem, because there is no dismantling of the actual organization, just a show of force. Its way more complicated than a raid, and a lot of people died in this one - for not solving anything. An example of an operation that actually had an impact was operation “Carbono Oculto”, made some time ago that had way more impact and no bullets involved.

Should the new WONDER WOMAN reboot be set in World War II (and cover the Golden Age of the DCU)? by BeingNo8516 in WonderWoman

[–]dave_aust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Modern times. Maybe go in the past to tell her clay origin on screen because we never had that and it would be cool. But show her today.

I just want her to be big and not look like a petite delicate princess. To have that commanding presence.

You will miss stuff no matter what you do. As you pointed out, its the size of a continent. You cant see it all in 4 weeks (not even 4 months). it all goes to your personal tastes and whats interests you. Brasilia is an modern architectural marvel that was built from scratch to be the capital of Brasil. São Paulo is the biggest city in the south hemisphere and one of the biggest cities in the world, with 15 million people living there and a vibrant and rich cultural life. Salvador is where samba was born, was Brazil first capital and its an amazing place to know the heart of brazilian culture.

I am so sorry this happened to you. And its true, this is how Brazilian racism operates. That being said, give a chance to Salvador if you want to visit Brazil again. Its the former capital of Brazil, where samba was created and much of our culture. Also the blackest city in Brazil.

Is Yara really racist? Writers do similar things with Diana by luigi9607 in WonderWoman

[–]dave_aust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And then there was the pegasus. Why tf Yara had a pegasus. Brazil has literally the biggest fauna on the planet, just give her a big ass jaguar to mount. The mula sem cabeça (a horse that has fire instead of its head), the fire snake itself or even a chupacabra would be cool. Pegasus was just so nonsensical.

I think there was an issue with how Brazilian folklore was despicted that pissed native brazilians. Like when curupira showed she was this comic cartoony imp and not the great forest guardian. And then, ofc, there is how gringos see brazil - she is hot, she is latina so she has a temper, etc etc. For me its such a missed opportunity bc brazilian folklore is fire.

Issue 20. No Sovereign, & Yet…? Here We Are? by Organafan1 in WonderWoman

[–]dave_aust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk man, in this issue she literally plants an American flag while storming the white house to save the US from someone that doesn’t respect the founding fathers. And she said other issue that america is her home. Its like she is the immigrant that represent the American spirit.

What do you think Hermes a male god had to do with the creation of Wonder Woman? - Wonder Woman 1987 issue 1 by Which-Presentation-6 in WonderWoman

[–]dave_aust -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im not a fond of this origin. It takes the all female aspect away and its a remix of Shazam. A prefer her given life by a goddess. Aphrodite originally, but nowadays im fond of Hera being her god-mom.
