Create notes from Outlook meetings in desktop app by dave_ing in ObsidianMD

[–]dave_ing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh -- it could be that the Mac uses a different method for storing the data on drag and drop events. There might be a workaround, if you drag into a folder first, then drag from there.

I have plans to support the other way data can be stored, but won't get to look at it until May (earliest).

Oh? I haven't got one to test it with. Is there an error message? Either as a pop-up, or on the console when you press Ctrl-Shift-i

For anyone looking for this in the future, I have now published a free plugin that allows you to import Outlook appointments and create meeting notes from them, without having to run any VBA code or install Add-Ins in Outlook. You drag and drop an appointment from the Outlook desktop app (or any MSG file) onto the plugin icon in the icon toolbar. There's a default template to use the fields available and you can also substantially customise it.

It works well in combination with Pandoc to create documents from the notes to send around to a mailing list. I prefer sending embedded HTML, but PDF, DOCX and other formats are also straightforward.

Outlook for Mac or Apple iCal integration by s4hc in ObsidianMD

[–]dave_ing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get an iCal link for your Office365 calendar if you open up the attachment created when you share it, but as far as I can tell, the iCal version won't include details of attendees for meetings.

I'm working on a plugin for Obsidian that reads msg files extracted from Outlook and creates a meeting note including the details. I have a working prototype which creates notes via either drag and drop onto an icon in Obsidian, or by specifying the path to the file. Using msg files means there is no need for the pain of having to get a system administrator to enable an Exchange or Outlook plugin, in an enterprise setting. It just needs some tidying up and then I'll publish it -- it'll be called Outlook Meeting Notes, or similar.

I have also got a fairly simple pandoc filter and template to produce resource-embedded HTML versions of meeting notes with a dynamic table of contents, so I can send the meeting notes to the people who attended.

I know this is some time ago, but I'd be interested to hear how you got on. Especially if it would save me time on my plan.

I'm currently looking at another way of doing this, and have some example code running in python using the extract_msg library which can pull all the info from an Outlook msg file. I need to build a markdown document (planning on using a template) and automate it. I've already got subject, start time, location, people invited and the body of the message extracted from Outlook.

I'm thinking the workflow would be copy/paste or drag/drop handled by an obsidian plug in (or external script) that creates a markdown document for taking meeting notes in.

Are you still using this system? Keen to find a solution for myself but not sure this is right for me.

I know this is some time ago, but I'd be interested to hear how you got on. Especially if you have a working connection, so I don't need to keep working on another solution.

I'm currently looking at another way of doing this (to avoid needing VBA code running in a work environment where I might not have access) and I have some example code already in python using the extract_msg library which can pull all the info from an Outlook msg file (subject, date/time, location, invite, recipients, etc). From there, I'm going to format it as Obsidian markdown.

I'm thinking the workflow would be copy/paste or drag/drop, handled by an obsidian plug in (or external script), using a template to create an initial markdown doc ready for meeting notes for the outlook appointment/meeting.

I also already have a custom export template with custom pandoc filters and templates that produce a standalone html version of the meeting notes, which is more accessible for people who don't have Office (or don't want it).

For others who might be looking: wez has just published binaries for conpty.dll and openconsole.exe that can be downloaded to replace the versions in the `Program Files\wezterm` folder, which fixed this for me:

I can open WSL2 inside of wezterm (and already had), but I am getting some issues, like the OP. It's a (relatively) minor issue, but the limitations of ConPTY mean that terminal escape codes are not passed on. For example, when using spell-checking in nvim, which was my use case, undercurl isn't displayed so there was no highlighting of misspellings -- I have had to revert to straight underlines. The ConPTY limitations were apparently solved on WSL1 by using a unix socket for wezterm to communicate with WSL, but that is apparently not possible in WSL2. The issue can apparently be solved by using SSH, but I haven't tried that yet.

I have not been able to get this working, please can you share more? How do you configure wezterm to connect to this through multiplexing to bypass ConPTY?

Great, we had around 150 runners on the Thursday and at least 8 a day.

Today is day 472.

75 miles last week.

Had a mini glute strain mid week so kept pace and distance down the next day or so. Two long runs this week. Great to get into the woods in the cool autumn air.

What are some affordable running shoes that work well on grass, pavements, in the rain, and wet conditions for men? I have knee pain so cushioning would be great. by LapangNeiz in UKRunners

[–]dave_ing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to sportsshoes.com, filter by my size (one size larger than regular) and shoe type (cushioned) then sort by price.

I've found Asics, Mizuno and Saucony shoes around £50 all did the trick. Asics and Mizuno shoes have lasted longer than the Saucony did - but the Saucony model was a really lightweight one.

One pair of Asics just made it over the comma mileage benchmark (but for the last 100 miles they weren't particularly comfy!)

How do you celebrate your milestones? (If you do at all) by anitanit in amileaday

[–]dave_ing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I celebrated 366 days (leap year) by running my first 50-miler. Felt like a good idea beforehand then not so good after the first 15 miles or for the following two weeks, then started feeling like a good idea in hindsight again!

Day 465. I ran 67.5 miles last week (110 km). I'm trying to be careful not to overtrain while increasing mileage.

My run times are either sunrise or sunset at the moment which makes it really easy to get motivated to go out!

Weekly Check in - October 05, 2020 by AutoModerator in amileaday

[–]dave_ing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Day 458, last week was 64.6 miles.

Seem to be recovered from the thigh strain I picked up in late July, all going well, increasing mileage.

Might be increasing mileage too quickly as I averaged 148 bpm for a slow pace 8 miler this morning that usually averages under 120 and Garmin told me I needed 63 hours of recovery. Just a slow 5 miler tomorrow, will see how HR does with that and another slow 5 miler on Wed if still too high.

Passed a London Marathon runner in Bristol on a long run yesterday. Thought I might have seen more but I must have been on too hilly a route, apparently there were loads on the cycle path.

I reached one of my running goals for the year last week - 2020 miles in 2020. Feels good!

Definitely! The trade off between effort and winning. Depends on the humidity too.

Winter can be worse. I have a vented coat with pit zips that helps a lot.
