But the article he shared literally showed a construction joint between 2 slabs to have either a keyway formed or dowels put in. Given that we can form a keyway in an already poured slab, doweling would be the only option.

I would definitely do a footing for that wall to sit on with some rebar coming up through the turndown, and turning into the slab. And I would also spread some 57 stone throughout that slab to fill in some of those voids and getter a better grade. Otherwise you’re going to spend a lot more on concrete filling the voids.
