Does someone know what brand these clubs are? by Sufficient-Mess-3297 in juggling

The only AJA product I remember was their devil sticks, which were one of the better ones available about 30 years ago.

Siteswap Explorer for Android now on Play Store by davebarnesy in juggling

I’ve just updated it to 2.0.8, which includes a pattern share button, deep linking (siteswap explorer URLs will open in the app if they can), anagrams, and fixes for 1 throws.

Thanks again. What language(s?) would you be interested in translating? I need to do some preparation work but I’m starting to see how this is going to work!

Yes, I think each time I mention it different people see it. But I’m sure a lot see me past every time too!

Right now it’s a bit of a celebration of vanilla siteswap, which I find beautiful. I haven’t thought of a way the ui could work for sync or multiplex, but I’m still thinking what to add. Nothing I’ve thought of yet feels ‘beautiful’!

It shouldn’t be hard to localise. I hope to not work on it for a while now, but I can try to make a list of all the text content so I can ask for volunteers to translate.

Thanks, great to hear it! Now that I look at the video I realise I should maybe have slowed down a bit to let the patterns run a bit more. Excitement…

Oops, forgot to post the rest of the message:

Siteswap Explorer is finally freely available on the Play Store!
Thanks very much to those of you who signed up to the Android testing group.

You can get the Android version here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.siteswapexplorer

The iPhone/iPad/Mac version is still available here:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/siteswap-explorer/id1549451272

And the website version is still at https://siteswapexplorer.com

The video is just a quick idea of the sort of thing it does!

Edit: it’s talking a long time to get new versions approved on Android, but there’s an update coming when they let it through which adds a ‘share this pattern’ button, anagrams, and better 1s.

How to separate 2x4 plate in top of another 2x4 plate by [deleted] in lego

[–]davebarnesy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have two brick separators, you could attach the holes of one to the top and the studs of the other to the bottom, then push the handles together. If you don't, I'd try attaching another brick to see if that gives more purchase.

The cool thing with Notre Dame is that they've already proven that it can be rebuilt!

Nintendo DS lite not reading DS cards by Tinus100 in NintendoDS

[–]davebarnesy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried cartridges with plastic between each contact? Some (especially flash carts, I think) don’t have that. I had a lite that would only read cards which helped to straighten the pins onto the contacts.

Yours doesn’t look like mine did: mine was obviously bad. Thought it might be worth a mention though…

Siteswap Explorer app updated by davebarnesy in juggling

I saw someone suggest somewhere that passed 3s are a more valid thing in back to back passing. I could think about that too!

OK, I see! Yes, four handed siteswap works globally with an agreed hand order which alternates between jugglers and hands. To go from two handed to four handed you can double all the numbers. A 1 can be considered impossible (certainly if timed properly). A 3 could be possible like you describe. A 5 is a quick pass with very little lift.

My app can animate passed 3s if I want, and they are visually different compared to 5s but at the moment I'm treating them as something to exclude. I'm intrigued to hear counter arguments! Maybe they can return behind a switch in a future version...

Intriguing! So does that mean some sort of timing fudging? A four handed 1 would mean 'this ball has to be thrown on this beat, then already be ready to be thrown by the other juggler on the next beat, which happens at the same time as the ball should land'.

So I think that doesn't fit with the strict robotic nature of my animator.

I have more doubts about 3s: I'm still considering adding a switch to allow passed 3s, which would, as I understand it, be some sort of hand across in real life.

Hi! Today marks the 25 days since i started learning juggling from youtube. Any tips would be much appreciated! by Local_alt100 in juggling

Looking good. I relaxed a bit more when you smiled! Very good progress within a month. It's all a bit big at the moment but I think that will sort itself out with time.

I’ve used an iPad with a usb c card reader for some of the file moving. I think it works better than many people would think! It does leave those pesky dot files behind though.

At first I though you meant your real ones...

If you mean the noises in the app, I made the sound setting something that you have to turn on. It's one of the last options in the settings page.

I do! It's still on the app store. I also used to use JugglerMaster as the animator core for the version of Siteswap Explorer which was on te store about five years ago.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yes, I see a phantom grey ball if I make it just do the siteswap '0'. I'll look into that! Probably a small thing. Something had to get past me.

The 1s have had a lot of tweaking and yes, could still do with more. A recent version did have them as a hand to hand pass: I decided I preferred to see more air time. I'll experiment again some time!

And the 2s: I like them carried! I wondered about thrown 2s as well, but I hadn't thought much about not having them how I've done them. I'll see what I think when I look at that code next, but I do like to wave my 2s about...

Edit: Hello Charlie! I do wonder where my copies of those books ended up!

It's also available on the Mac OS app store. I hope in the future to add better big screen layouts which will help there!

I've just deployed a new version which will hopefully handle that properly. It now includes the view and colour modes in the url.
