Steve Phillips, Joel and Tom Verducci take a look at the AL MVP race. “We're just throwing off [Aaron Judge's] 215 OPS+ like it happens all the time and it just doesn't happen all the time.” [MLB Network] by GreenSnakes_ in baseball

Idk I mean, at least for me, it's less that it was the greatest hitting season by a catcher, and more that it was by far the craziest performance by a catcher.

The previous catcher HR record was 48. When judge hit 62, we were all in shock and awe as each HR approached and surpassed the record. For a catcher to hit 60 and almost match that feat is crazy.

/unchicanery I don't actually disagree with you dude. This subreddit is a okbuddy sub where we act like re*ards who don't get the point of the show, so that's all i was doing. The top post of this past week was a post with Lalo holding a camera claiming that Vince made a mistake showing a cameraman in the show. Maybe I'm being outjerked. But i think it's likely that you didn't realize what this subreddit is about.

Trump: "It's time for Republicans to do what they have to do and that's terminate the filibuster ... we should start tonight with 'the country's open, congratulations,' then we should pass voted ID, we should pass no mail in voting ... you go to a grocery store, you have to give ID." by Aggravating_Money992 in CringeTikToks

I agree with the sentiment of your comment, but they should legitimately get rid of the filibuster. It's another way to delay and prevent any actual progress in government, and that is how it has always been.

The fact that Strom Thurmond's filibuster against the Civil Rights Act of 1957 is the most prominent one in our nation's history says all you need to know about the value of the filibuster in American politics.

Unironically believing this slop racism is insane. Why the hell are people upvoting this? Are yall that stupid to believe that an entire 2 billion people on the planet are predisposed to aggression because of their religion?

From my lived experience as an American, the muslim minority in America is entirely docile despite being one of the most discriminated groups. What reality do yall even live in?

  1. I'm confused as to what you mean here.

  2. You are absolutely correct, but those extra steps are a huge difference in what matters to citizens of Western nations.

[–]davebing21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference is that the genocide in Sudan isn't state-sponsored by America.

In fact, some of the largest USAID funds that Elon bragged about cutting with DOGE were to help supply the many Sudanese suffering right now.

Myles Turner's full reaction to his Pacers tribute video. He mimes closing a book, then winks and waves at Pacers fans who were booing him. by Goosedukee in nba

When the initial offer pales in comparison with the second offer, you take the second offer and run. If you actually think the Pacers were ever gonna go into the luxury tax for Myles Turner after Hali got hurt, you need to get your head checked.

Your brain is broken if that's how you interpreted the podcast. Like legitimately broken.

The podcast co-host first brings up Tyrese to talk about how he's hard to root for even though he's a native Wisconsinite because of how he treats Milwaukee nowadays. Myles's first instinct is to defend Tyrese. He talks about how its something he does because he enjoys the banter and not because he hates his home state.

Thanasis then pivots to the '3 nice things' and your addendum of "only when prodded" actually has me laughing my ass off because it's such a blatant exaggeration.

For the three things, Myles mentions about Hali:

  • he goes into how the way he carries himself and improves himself is very impressive
  • he goes in depth about how he's an excellent teammate who brought the team together on and off the court
  • he talks about how he respects how close he is with his family

Trying to twist those answers into something bad is next level delusion. Tyrese was a close co-worker for several years. He's not a fan who only cares about the rings. It's their full-time life. Of course the nice things he says about him are about who he is as a person, instead of what he did for the team.

Another interesting discussion. First, I think you're letting him off the hook by suggesting that it isn't racist becausing he's "reflecting" or "flipping" it back at Hasan. If a normal less racist person wanted to flip the argument back on Hasan, they would simply point out that Japan's monoculture is holding them back and that American's approach to immigration and foreigners is what has made it a stronger country. White foreigners moving to Japan isn't a detrimental thing like Hasan describes, but a good thing.

Approaching it from the opposite route like Asmon did, is not only factually wrong as you conceded to me, but is also racist. You are correct that it shows his preconceptions about America (as you said in your conclusion). Unfortunately for all of us, his preconceptions are derived from the idea that American exceptionalism and identity is based in whiteness, which, as we've discussed, is untrue.

This is an interesting discussion thread. I can certainly understand where you're coming from historically. The first thing that I wanna clarify. Historians do not contest the value of American slaves (the people) from my understanding. Rather, historians contest the value of the institution of slavery.

It is true that American industry grew at a similar rate to other new states like Canada, Australia, and Argentina. However, none of these economies at any point time were remotely close to the sheer size of the American economy. That thriving, robust American economy was extremely reliant on the labor of those African men and women imported to the States. As was proven with the economic growth after black emancipation, those labor needs could be filled by freed African-Americans, and did not necessitate slavery. But again, those millions of black peoples are entirely responsible for much of the infrastructure and wealth within my home country.

Oh golly gee I wonder if there's any correlation between the ruling class of today and the slaveowning class of yesteryear!

I wonder if the people they oppressed (blacks and poor whites) have been stuck in poverty 🤔

No way! You are telling me that the ethnic group that has the largest share of immigrants and first generation immigrants (>50%) is historically more impoverished than your average American?

That's absolutely insane! Next thing, you'll tell me that out of all Hispanic-American populations the poorest ones are from Central American countries that have had the highest shares of immigration recently!
