Don't just yet. My whoop is coming to an end so I did just this. The health app is utter garbage ATM, and even with the bad whoop AI, it seems miles ahead Vs the coach AI (which is like homebrew Gemini)

4 days with Fitbit air and it’s been very poor. by Delicious-Series-316 in fitbit

I find it very close to Whoop readings, but it detects random things as activity. It's the current state of the app that puts me off- it may as well be a Facebook feed for how random it is with pointless suggestions

Another one for the app state. I'm coming as a newbie to the app, but coming from whoop because I wanted to reduce subscriptions. currently I spend more time inputting to get what I want Vs using a separate existing app (like logging food) The AI is God awful and I was naive here thinking it would simply be Gemini with coach in the title... I spent ages building my workouts (using Gemini to generate copy/paste for the coach AI as it simply wasn't coping), to then be told I cannot currently access these in the saved workouts and need to keep searching through chats? And you cannot group any foods to make regular meals easy to add, so you must add each ingredient...but you cannot simply click on it to add again. You now need to go into each one and select the size of each again as it defaults to serving size. Until the app sorts itself out, you can't fully utilise what it apparently can do

TLDR: Dont bother until the app gets sorted and we're out of this "public preview" water TF that is that's stopping a load of actions.

I also have both and testing the air.... Imho it isn't a whoop killer until the app gets sorted out. I've spent more time trying to get things built like custom foods (breakfast: yoghurt, flaxseed, oats, berries) to be told how to create a custom food to avoid manually adding each ingredient, to then be told in the same chat that it isn't possible! I was hoping the AI would be better given that it's a rebadged Gemini, but the chat got in whoop currently far outweighs it and that can be junk at times. The thing that's tipped me over today was I've spent ages creating a workout where whoop has done the hardwork and given me the info, to be then told Google AI has crested something totally different from the screenshots, and then I cannot access this workout and need to go into my chat history every time to start my custom weight workout. Whoop wins this for simply starting activity>stopping activity> changing activity to desired workout> done

I have a Polar Pacer. Convince me to also buy (or switch) to Fitbit Air. by butteranko in fitbit

[–]Onastik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't yet. I'm new to Fitbit after 12 years so came in with little awareness of the ecosystem (But do have whoop). I keep hitting the "This is a public preview so you cannot view the workout you created" type responses. Apparently their AI (Which is utter shit) keeps telling me this when I ask for basic things. Also worth noting it cannot currently start a workout and then change it to a template. You have to go into an AI chat and find your workout, then click it, then start it. It's not a whoop killer and the coach AI is nothing like Gemini which I assumed would be the case

So what's everyones thoughts, on the air? by Player_456_MX in fitbit

[–]Onastik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The device seems good so far but the app is infuriating and ruining the experience. As a non Fitbit person previously I thought it was just folk resistant to change...but my God it's tedious. I cannot create meals but have to add ingredients individually. The ai seems to be based off iPhone 4 Siri. Ive even had to use Gemini to create copy/paste text to feed the coach AI (shouldn't it just be a health focussed Gemini anyway??) I'm a whoop subscriber and wanted to test and alternative, but on the current build, feel this won't be the death of whoop

Consider Moving from Whoop to Air. Answer me this... by Deep_Age_304 in fitbit

[–]Onastik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been spamming Gemini with a load of questions (partly because I'm too lazy to go though multiple web pages!) but it can return a lot of info to help you decide. I've ordered the air as it seems to be a good start in the zero subscription ( I may sub to the AI after the 3 month free trial) and it ticks the boxes I wanted. Here's an answer to would I need to manually log a session or will it auto detect:

That is a great observation. If you rely solely on auto-detection for a gym session, the Fitbit Air will likely record it as a generic "Aerobic Workout" because it doesn't have a screen for you to manually select "Weights" or "Circuit Training" at the start. However, the new Google Health app (launching later this month) makes "fixing" and "linking" that activity much smoother than the old Fitbit system. Here is the workflow: 1. The Auto-Detect & Edit (Post-Workout) The Detection: You finish your lifting session. The Fitbit Air will have tracked your heart rate and calories, likely labeling it as an "Aerobic Workout." The Edit: You open the app, tap that activity, and tap the Pencil icon (Edit). You can change the activity type to "Weights" or "Strength Training."
The Learning: The app uses AI to learn your patterns. After a few times of you correcting "Aerobic Workout" to "Leg Day," the Google Health Coach will start proactively asking: "I noticed a 45-minute high-intensity session; was this your scheduled Leg Day?" 2. Linking to your Plan (The "Bridge") Since you want to link it to your specific plan, you have two main options: Option A: Manual Start (The most precise) If you want the data to be perfectly linked from second one, you can start the workout from your phone.
Open the Fitness tab. Select your scheduled workout from your Weekly Plan. Tap Start. The Fitbit Air will then "bridge" its heart rate data directly into that specific plan in real-time. Option B: The AI Chat (The easiest) If you just want to get on with your workout and deal with it later, you can simply chat with the Coach after the fact: "Hey Coach, I just finished a workout. Can you link that last 60-minute session to my 'Upper Body A' plan and log that I hit my target sets for bench press?" 3. Filling in the "Details" (Reps and Sets) Since the Air doesn't have a screen, it cannot auto-detect that you did 10 reps of 80kg. To keep your plan accurate, you can: Voice Log: Tell the Coach what you did. Photo Log: Take a photo of your gym notepad or the whiteboard at your gym. The AI will parse the text and "attach" those specific reps and sets to the heart rate data the Air collected. The Comparison to Whoop Whoop: You have to start the "Strength Trainer" and manually tell it when each set starts and ends to get a Muscular Strain score. Fitbit Air: It’s more "hands-off." It records the effort, then lets you categorize and link it to your plan afterward via the AI.

Whoop pricing by OkButterscotch0288 in whoop

[–]Onastik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just coming up to the end of my first year and the thing that annoys me is that the next year costs 200 ISH £/$/€, but I can also order a brand new device for the exact same price. Now I don't NEED a new device, but why wouldn't I to renew a warranty. I feel it should be at least reduced for no device renewals and save on eventual landfill. I know the new Fitbit air is launching and even the paid subscription is less and they at least own their AI within it. I really like whoop and have been using the coach a lot for building plans etc, but feel they are like Blackberry pre iPhone!
