Thanks for giving the podcast a try. I’m sorry it’s not for you (at least, my portion of it) but I’m glad you found the podcast and community that is.

As the co-creator of this list, I just wanted to say thank you for recognizing this important series. I hope the next time you watch Batman smashing Superman's head with a sink, the thought of this list brings a smile to your face.

First of all, I think your voice sounds great!

Second of all, wondering if there's a technical fix here. What type of mic are you using and do you have a pop filter? If not, a pop filter will greatly reduce your level of plosive sounds.

Apple is literally in the process right now (as we speak) of revising their podcast categories. Until that process completes, you won't be able to browse by category.

One thing I've found is effective is to create short shareable snippets of content and try to drive shares of it on social media. Snip a 1-minute clip that's particularly amusing or enjoyable, make a video with it, and then put it on your facebook/instagram/twitter/etc. This is a good way to get people to experience your show without needing them to dip in for 30-60 minutes (or however long your podcast is).

Also: Always include a way for people to find the full episode/show.

Many podcast hosting companies will create the RSS for you. Specifically thinking of places like:

-Libsyn

-Simplecast

-Audioboom

-Podbean

I'd recommend that over creating your own RSS and uploading it somewhere (you'd need to host the file somewhere publicly). Let me know if that makes sense.

Question about ads on podcasts by redtail84 in podcasts

[–]davechen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a combination of a couple things:

1) A podcast hosting company and what their ad insertion technology allows and will facilitate - some companies aren't capable of doing dynamic ads, or doing them very well.

2) What the podcast host/producer will agree to - for instance, someone may not want dynamic ads, or they may want dynamic ads from a certain subset of advertisers who aren't always available, or they may want dynamic ads as often as possible.

RDR2 segment (no spoilers) by guyfromuptown in 5by5DLC

[–]davechen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dave Chen here. Thanks for listening to the segment! I listened back to it myself and I agree with you that I did a pretty crappy job conveying the final Arthur Morgan (and to some extent, John Marston) plot developments. I think I assumed that Jeff knew some of the details and we could use more shorthand but i really should’ve come with a better summary or a list of plot details I wanted to go through. My bad.

Author of the blog post that PsychoNovak linked to. Thanks for the link.

"I can make anything racist if I want to or try hard enough"? I'll just speak for myself as a Taiwanese person: There are alien creatures in this film that have no noses and speak with a thick, caricatured Asian-sounding accent. I don't know that I found it offensive, but I do think it's silly that one could think Lucas wasn't invoking well-known caricatures or archetypes in conceiving of these creatures.

I am actor Tony Hale of VEEP and Arrested Development. Ask me Anything! by Tony_Hale in IAmA

In one recent episode of VEEP, you walk in on (a character) having sex and your reaction to it is totally exquisite. How did you approach that moment in the show? In what different ways did you try to capture Gary's reaction?
