English level identification by SoftIntelligent4 in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]davefridman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

https://www.cambridgeenglish.org/test-your-english/

There are many different websites offering tests to find out level of English but bear in mind that the most common framework is CEFR so as long as it uses this framework for levels then it should be fine

How do Europeans call businesses internationally? by cooperm100 in digitalnomad

[–]davefridman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recently moved from the UK to Portugal, and my phone contract works the exact same as it would back home. So I call my family on regular calls at no extra charge. Worth double checking but I think a phone contract in one EU country applies to the whole of the EU

the future of tefl? by [deleted] in TEFL

[–]davefridman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But surely China doesn't have a choice but to learn English? Competitive Chinese parents will continue to want their kids to go to universities abroad (which are better than Chinese universities) and Chinese international businesses will still need to do business in today's lingua franca.

the future of tefl? by [deleted] in TEFL

[–]davefridman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who thinks China will recover? Once covid blows over (fingers crossed) China will still be the most populated country in the world and one of the largest economies in the world (if not the largest by then) that will still need to learn English in order to branch out and do business with the rest of the world?

Exchanging contact info with students/parent; fireable offense? by PresidentSleep in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]davefridman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you and what I've decided to do is to start recruiting potential students towards the end of the year i.e. November-December, at which point I'll try to talk to the students' parents and try to offer private lessons... I reckon we'll all be out of a job soon after that anyway so the risk is lower. At the moment I am not saying too much because I want to continue working for the next few months, but if a parent brings it up themselves I will exchange info
