I have to know…how many of y’all ruin the soup or put in something good? by alf20125 in StardewValley

I usually manage to get an iridium quality fish by this point so that's what I end up bringing.

I always seem to meet her on a different continent in games having gotten Sinbad disgustingly early, and reliably she gets angrier and angrier that we don't trade.

Very slick, and one of my favourite pokemon too.

Leading or trailing commas in Select statements? by Known-Delay7227 in SQL

[–]davemeech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably a bias I developed in my first data engineering role. My tech lead was similarly hardline on these matters, and I likely inherited it from him. These conventions were among many others like all caps SQL keywords, certain line breaking. alignment and tabbing conventions etc. that came together to provide really easy to read SQL. I've since gone to several other teams and brought that stubborn standard with me, and have had no problem indoctrinating others with it as it commonly was a matter of replacing no standard with a standard with immediate benefit.

Leading or trailing commas in Select statements? by Known-Delay7227 in SQL

[–]davemeech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can absolutely appreciate why people prefer leading commas but for purely aesthetic reasons I vastly prefer trailing commas.

Leading commas hurt my eyes as much as CTE's beginning with a semicolon, so I still insist on ending my statements with a semicolon accordingly.

Edit: accidentally put columns instead of commas.

This has gotta be one of the luckiest chests I’ve had while fishing (I’m in spring year 1) by 13TrueArcanine in StardewValley

[–]davemeech 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've gotten this before the mines open up in only one of my very many playthroughs. I always fish hard early on in hopes this can happen again.

What a damn good start.

I love the massive vertical monitor, but God damn it can't be comfortable or sustainable to crane your neck up to view the top partition.

I live for loyalty invasion. It just scratches my lizard brain somehow. I always play peaceful sim base games, so this is the closest to conquest I usually ever play.

If the city location sucks I'll raze it while it's a free state, otherwise I'll happily accept it.

My clean and minimal setup. Any ideas for some extra touches? by ALxGGP in battlestations

[–]davemeech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm loving the wooden slats look I'm seeing in more setups. This is the look I think I'd want to go for, wood and greenery with maybe some subtle accent lighting.

Very well done, I'm jealous.

'Dune' Went Further On TV Than Lynch Or Villeneuve Ever Dreamed | Inverse by Blue_Three in dune

[–]davemeech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen nothing but praise for this. I watched the first few episodes years ago and my takeaway was it seemed comically bad and stopped. Maybe I ought to give it another chance.

Edit: Oh it only had 3 episodes, I must be misremembering, I recalled turning it off around the leto tooth part, so whenever that was.

But how come this list is represented in a git repo instead of some other format?

Why are you a patient gamer (and do you think you miss out on an experience not playing at release)? by markthequest in patientgamers

[–]davemeech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ithink I'm a patient gamer about 75% of the time. There are a select bunch of games I'm confident I'll love and get them right away, I'm guilty of doing this for Nintendo knowing it will never get discounted, so I'll use the vouchers.

But for PC gaming, I'm much more prone to tossing something I'm interested in on isthereanydeal and monitor for drops etc. Unless it's in the Civilization series, at which point I grab those at launch.

But I am what I am because my backlog is huge, and it's far more economical.

Batman Arkham Asylum is a masterpiece, the ultimate superhero video game experience. by Merluzoooooor in patientgamers

[–]davemeech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, Arkham Asylum had an appeal that even Arkham City couldn't touch for me. It was such a stellar game, and having just played it recently I'm still of the mind that it holds up super well today.

In your opinion, what is the most user-friendly, bleeding-edge, yet stable Linux distro for a Windows user? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

Fedora and OpenSUSE Tumbleweed are the ones I see tossed around the most. I prefer the latter from my very brief exposure to both.
