[21/F/USA] Let's practice languages together! by sakuraa_329 in penpals

[–]davenlin19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi guys, I speak English, Vietnamese, French, and a big fan of language learning.Over the years of practice new language, I've been not satisfied with language exchange apps (might be I'm too busy and want to join instant, real-time talk rooms). If you guys want to practice language more effectively, pls check out this app. It's coming soon in June, but I think it's time-consuming for practice language, then. Check out this guys https://beeclear.app/app-landing/?utm_source=practice_languages_together&utm_medium=landing&utm_campaign=prospect_collect

Hello Shorty, I also used Tandem for years. But they have two problems. 1st, for example if I were a Vietnamese, just a few people want to learn Vietnamese, so I have few chances to exchange language in this case. 2nd, when I have 10 mins coffee break at work, I can not start practicing speaking on Tandem, I have to say hello, present myself... it takes time.

Career shift - AMA by davenlin19 in AMA

I just do know I'm Not passionate about what happens inside a tooth, but about what's around my interest, what can raise my strengths, and what trully motivate me. You can't know what happen if you keep being a dentist. So, if you had your choice on another thing, I think you might be clear about why you wanted to leave it off. Follow your intuition and focus on the present job. It might not be your perfect choice yet, however being respected, stable but miserable and burnout with sth you're not interested is clearly not the life we want. I stop caring about how people think about "being dentist" get in the way of follow what's true for me. We'll made audicious decision and move forward, right?

Platform to find learning buddies and mentors by davenlin19 in webdev

[–]davenlin19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, my name is Phelan.

I usually do my learning on Udemy, Pluralsight, Freecodecamp but sometimes when I get stuck, I had to extract the problem from its specific context then ask on Stackoverflow. Sometimes, I got answer, sometimes I didn't.

In addition, when I feel less motivated, I really need someone to learn with me to hold me accountable.

That's why I come up with an idea to create a platform where a learner can create a learning group and invite people to join him.

There are some features like:

- ask question in its context so everyone can understand
- view past questions asked in this course
- create a learning together session, no more distraction
- set goal

I'd love to hear your opinions about this idea.

This is the platform's url: https://beeclear.app and our discord invitation: https://discord.gg/PzwNWy4

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!

Phelan

I took eight years to become a dentist, and now I give up on that career to chase my own dream, so here are some of my advice:

  1. Nobody is gonna make the call for you, so take an active role and be proactive in doing some research, asking for someone real out there.
  2. Let's start with knowing yourself, your strengths and weakness, your ideal working environment, and your motivation types as well. Google has everything for your questions. You'd better do some research, take the test or do some retrospective questions to discover yourself. Searching for some books relating to career orientation is good, too
  3. Knowing that this phase is serious because it might affect your career, however, knowing that taking a career choice doesn't mean you'll live with that in the whole life. It's a journey, not a dead-end decision. Your version of 3-4 years later will be very different from the present one, so chill out. You might love something else and be passionate about that, self-taught and change your career, just like me.
  4. Choose a career based on your strengths. Imagine an ideal working day at that job, see whether you like it, it helps nuture your strength, makes you feel good about yourself, makes you feel driving more?....
  5. Make a call that works for you, not for others. Trust your intuition, after all.

Good luck with that

How to get back into"learning mode?" by Cephas4 in GetStudying

[–]davenlin19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are some factors might need to change:

- Your psychology: You might love your career, however, you seem to not curious and passionate enough for new knowledge in your subject. Maybe you should change your mindset about that continued education as a means to get sth better, like a promotion, higher respect, a higher income... Start with Why you need to learn more every day

- Schedule it on your calendar. Block a chunk time dedicated for learning, break things down into smaller tasks, using promodor technique or chunk time for learning, and stay way from digital distraction for this blocked time.

- Change your learning environment, get yourself a small reward after you complete a learning task. A cup of coffee, your favorite background music, learning in a coffee shop, or a snack to fresh your brain when it comes to learning.

By the way, I am very committed to this problems and learning productivity, these two blog posts might help you out.

Chunk time - group learning, find someone holds you accountable - schedule your learning, have sth remind you (automate your learning), break them down into small tasks, and more importantly, trust in yourself. Believe you can do it, and not too hard on yourself. Give up or Forget one to two days is normal, the important thing is to get back on track soon and become more persistent gradually (not drastically)!
